I found this post apropos as I crawled back into work after a lunch of country-fried steak, fried okra, mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese with three glasses of sweet tea. Garden & Gun is my favorite magazine and I found myself very pleased with a recent feature story on my hometown and current residence, Greenville, SC.

We've got family outside of Charleston, SC, and it only took me one visit to get hooked on sweet tea. I make it myself up here, but I know I'm not using as much sugar as they use in some places down south. I just can't bring myself to do it, even though I know it won't taste as good.

I'm a guy that generally likes to have a beer or three with a meal, but down there? I always do sweet tea. Probably for the reasons that the author above mentions. It just goes so well well most Southern food. Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

We have tentative plans to drive down there this coming weekend to see Todd Snider perform. I'm thinking this post might have changed the plans from tentative to definite.

I like sweet tea, but I cannot drink it too often. The taste is too overwhelming. I prefer regular old iced tea with just a sprinkle of sugar in the glass, instead of an entire 5 pound bag.
