You know, Jon, I’m not usually critical of Girardi, but the one thing about him that has ALWAYS bothered me is his insistence at pinch running. It’s like a knee-jerk response, and it makes me crazy.

At this point, I think we’re down to making excuses. If these relievers can’t pitch to their contracts, shame on Cashman for overpaying. If Girardi’s going by ‘gut feeling’, then he needs to go to the emergency room fast. If neither one is concerned about the division, they need to do everyone a favor going forward and retire in the off-season. The last thing we need around here is a blessing of any sense of entitlement.

Apropos hand grenade allusion, Jon.

It seems that over the course of a season, Girardi does a nice job of managing injuries, the bullpen and keeping players fresh.

However, he just can’t bring that down to the micro level. The Yanks seem to win IN SPITE of his in-game moves.

What do I know, though, he’s won a World Series in 3 tries.
