[12] New players for Boston cannot win games for the team? I wasn’t referring to the past players, just that the team might right their boat, and go on a streak in the playoffs this year, comparing it to what happened in 2004. Games that they might not be playing if the Yankees won last night.

I hope you’re right, but we’ll all need an exorcist if you’re not.

God, last night’s game was painful too watch just by the duration alone. After the 13th I shut it down. As optimistic a fan as I am, I figure if they couldn’t put the winning run across by then, they weren’t going to at all.

Tim Wakefield, David Ortiz, Kevin Youkilis, Jason Varitek. Those are the 2004 Red Sox who are on the current team. I feel fairly confident that Youk and Wake will play no role in the post-season this year. (Youkilis has a hernia and Wakefield is very bad and might not make the roster.) I don’t suppose anyone is worried that Captain Facemask will haul the Beantowners up by their bootstraps for an amazing comeback. And I know Ortiz is still a very good hitter, but come on.

You can’t be afraid of laundry! The 2004 comeback is not embedded in their uniforms, or in ghosts in Fenway. Those guys are gone. Pedro is gone, Schilling is gone, Millar is gone, Manny is gone, Dave Roberts is gone. Maybe you need a good exorcist!

I can see the reasons for not bringing in Ayala and Kontos (esp. given they had both pitched Saturday), or even one of the B’s, given that Noesi is scheduled for Monday and they might need some extra arms for that game.

The real issue I have is why is Scott Proctor wasting a 40-man slot at all? Pena shouldn’t have even had him as an option. Even if you want to make a “we’ve clinched everything we can and our only objective is to make sure no one on the postseason roster gets hurt so let’s bring in the they guy we care least about in the pen to pitch” kind of move, which is perfectly fine, it still seems like you could get someone better than Scott Proctor. That’s all I’m saying.

I’m angry, tired, hung over, and trying not to be useless this morning. Why…because I chose to watch a seemingly meaningless game to the disappointing end. I know we should be thankful and look forward to the playoffs this Friday, and know that the Yankees will always have the wherewithal and desire to field a contending team. We’re spoiled, and could be fans of 20+ teams and the character building that a loser brings. However, not pinch hitting in certain spots (Girardi made some lame statement that “the guys” were not stretched and loose and if got injured at this point, the possible damage was not worth it} and not pitching some of the young guys with no expectations instead of Proctor with the resulting expectation was a strategic surrender. Does not seem the Yankee way.

And, giving Boston a chance to resurrect in the playoffs might strike terror in Yankee fans hearts…2004 anyone? Does the team intentionally lose the next three to give the Rays a chance?

Wasn’t this like last season? At least this year the team was so far out in front that Girardi didn’t get a chance to punt away the division title. He’s got the most storied franshise in all of sports and he’s giving the ball to a complete embarrassment, who has no business wearing the uniform much less being in the big leagues. If I was Scott Proctor I’d send myself down just to save some face.

I guess being ultra careful, you want to stretch Noesi out, as you intend to use him as your long man, but there has to be another way. Have him throw a sim on the plane (kidding).

But when you have a chance to cut their throats, you don’t put your own head in the guillotine.

Even Ayala has to be the choice above the undead.

Just got back from the game. Needless to say, I was really unhappy to see Proctor come in the game. Why not Noesi? or any of the million other guys on the 40 man roster? I hope the Yanks trot out Proctor against the Rays to make things even.

I wish Scott Proctor the best in his life after the “Yankees 2011″.

I hope he pitches the next 5 year and is incredible.

Nothing personal, I hate, Hate, HATE him right now.

Not because of who he is, but because of WHAT HE REPRESENTS.

He’s an absolute symbol of where the Yankees’ development system is broken and it’s fucking infuriating.

The Yankees have made it clear, time after time after time, that they’d much rather dredge up some other team’s failed rejects than give their own minor league pitchers a chance.

And it’s bullshit.

Not a win at all costs game? Fine. But just for shits and giggles and the sheer thrill of not knowing the outcome, why on God’s green earth would you not turn to any of the more acceptable options than that fucking batting tee?
