[5] derek is even better than that! i know him personally for a very long time now and have had the honor of playing with him on stage many times. he's absolutely unreal!!!

in fact, the last name that goes with my screen name, is the same as his - part of the same "stage names" bestowed upon us by a wise old bandleader.

[4] I caught a Beacon show this year and was suitably impressed. I'd say that with Derek & Warren, this might be the best lineup since the original band. I usually catch them every other year or so. Warren is a fantastic player but Derek is worthy of the moniker one critic gave him, "The holiest guitar in the West."

I noticed they were doing Miles' "Spanish Key" fairly often this year.

[3] they still are! in fact, they're probably better than ever. they still hold duane in the highest reverence possible.

you can add avant-garde and latin to their amalgam of styles.

[2] I was saying to Alex, that I love how they marry what is basically a country song to a pure R&B backbeat. The Allmans really were genre-smashers - blues/jazz/country/r&b/good old rock'n'roll.

[1] yeah, it's a beautiful song. of course, you hear the Brothers all the time here in "Hotlanta". amazing band.

i'm fortunate to have a goodly amount of long-term, direct ties to the group, so i know a lot of the guys. i'm already booked on their big Wanee festival next April. can't wait!
