The whole PED thing has been a farce forever. Didn't we all know that players were juicing in the late 80's. I was in SF and watch the Canseco and McGuire grow those enormous muscles in a year. My baseball buddies and I joked about it at the time. All the holier than thou's got hold of it and suddenly no one knew what was obvious to a casual observer? C'mon. Everyone looked the other way. Players, agents, managers, owners, the commissioner. It's old news. Manny returning? Great theater is all I can say. Like the man said, I got bigger conercens to worry about.

I'm not at all convinced that Braun took PEDs. In fact, my bet is that he did not.
ESPN fucked this one up, I think. We'll see.

[9] And how about the fact that there's another planet within 400 light years of us that has a habitable atmosphere, proving that Kevin Costner was onto something when he made "Waterworld"? That's pretty significant; I mean c'mon, Kevin Costner??

(8) Right on. I'd throw in publicly financed stadiums, greedy owners, tv blackouts and DUI's as all bigger problems than PED's, the positive effects of which are still unproven (in baseball at least)

[5] no, that is not to err. I was simply stating that sports takes itself way too seriously. People come out with pitchforks against Braun, but shit that is way more important and going on underneath a lot of noses, is covered up and allowed to go on. That was my point. I guess I didnt make that connection so explicit.

We talk about protecting the sanctity of a sport, but sports also has shit that's way more effed up than the sanctity of its respective sport. I doubt the shit going on where children are being "anally raped" is an isolated incident with PSU, Syracuse. Therefore I can no longer care about Braun being a PED user. I got bigger concerns to worry about.

We now clear?

[5][6] The comparison is asinine. Now that said, PED use is currently, according to the rules of the game, cheating. So I think that--within the context of the sport--it is noteworthy that the reigning MVP is likely to be suspended for cheating.

Whether one "cares" about cheating is another discussion.

[5] Are you equating doing PEDS to sexual abuse? Are you saying anally raping a 9 year old boy is simply 'to err'?

The PEDS thing is indeed old, but the more players they name, the less the impact to those already outed (like ARod).

[1] Yeah, agreed, the novelty wore off a long time ago with the outing of PED users. Who gives a crap? I sure don't. People talk about protecting the sanctity of sports, yet, we are now hearing about people involved in sexual abuse from AAU teams to elite college teams. It is all so hypocritical, IMHO. Just watch the games, discuss them, but propelling people to God-like levels is a recipe for disaster. To err is human, and every one of them is human. Except that the errs that some commit are also considered felonies.

I hate how baseball wants to protect this pristine image that is anything but THAT. What-the-eff-evah!

As for the Knicks, HOLY SHIT (sorry for cussing, Big Al) I am so excited about this basketball season. CAN'T. EFF'ING. WAIT.

Oh yeah, EFF David Stern.

They're gonna miss Chauncey for what it's worth. Sad they couldn't fit him in somehow, but again they seem to have a blind spot for floor leadership and defense that showed when he wasn't on the floor. If they re-sign him to fit in the cap then I'll re-evaluate, but it's two steps forward (Chandler), one step back (Billups) and a pair of snow boots (Bibby).

[1] Oh hell, not with Bibby at the point. It's like they threw a bone to D'Antoni and his Go Go No Dee; "I know we just upgraded our defense significantly with Chandler, but that'll make Mike sad, so let's get a point guard who can't defend anyone and can't really score anymore to compromise that and turn that frown upside-down!"
