[9] thurman was my very 1st idol. i’ve got thurman stuff all over my house & studio. i didn’t know they were releasing that card, so i was overjoyed with that surprise.

and now today, looking it up, i see there were all kindsa weird topps releases last season. i’m gonna scoop up a few of ‘em! : )

[4] Card 219 in the regular 2011 Topps set is Carlos Ruiz. I believe Topps had 25 “legends” cards inserted into this set, and those legends “share” a number with the regular cards for some reason. So that Munson is 219b, and harder to come by than the Ruiz, as you can tell by the price.

[5] there were a lot of “specialty” cards issued of thurman last year, but really, this “main” one is the best. i’m surprised it’s this expensive, but it is difficult to find. i guess i got lucky, as it was in a regular pack. they have a few other releases of this card, with a glittery background, that’s easier to find (several at ebay, for instance). but that version is too “loud” for me…

this is gonna be a fun series!

yeah, i have the thurman “in action” card, as well as his regular card.

i wasn’t quite around yet in 1972, but i’ve been collecting for 30+ years now. new topps cards should be out within 2 weeks, i suppose! hope it’s a good design this year. last year was okay, nothing special. but they did release a “new” thurman munson card, so i was very psyched about that!

Looking forward to the 1972 Topps set! I always laugh at what Topps labeled as “In Action” that year. Just terrible. The Clemente “In Action” is him whining about a call from the home plate ump. If there was an internet in 1972, Clemente fans would have torn down the Topps site in protest.
