Cervelli did have to catch a lot of AJ's starts last year, and Burnett's seemingly disregard of holding runners prolly skewed Cervelli's throw-out success.

I will miss that Italian/Venezuelan, and hold the hope he will be back. I know his throwing seemed to decline, but he did show moments of competency. Cervelli is a streaky hitter who was often clutch. Martin was injured quite a bit last year, and Cervelli had to play everyday for a long while.

The way he threw the ball around after a strike out, how he disappeared from behind the plate on a called strike three in the final out of an inning, you can tell he loves playing the game, and was appreciative of every day he had with the NY Yankees. He is a worthy major leaguer, and somebody is going to need him right quick.

Cervelli has had at least three concussions, and probably has only one more to go before the damage is permanent, and he will have to leave the game...

My memories of Stewart are him getting repeatedly crossed up with several different pitchers in his game with the Yankees. To the point where people decided Phil Hughes' eyes were the issue (which didn't explain why it was also happening with Ohlendorf)

Other moves made today:

Bill Hall was released. Perhaps the Yankees will try to re-sign him to a minor league deal.

Justin Maxwell was designated for assignment.

David Phelps made the team as a long reliever.

The statistic that stands out to me about Cervelli is this: each of the last two seasons, he has thrown out 14 per cent of runners. 14 per cent! Atrocious. That's just unacceptable for a backup catcher, unless he hits like Ron Hassey or Cliff Johnson or Johnny Blanchard. And Cervelli isn't any of those guys.

Too bad for Cervelli. He seems crushed. The move makes sense to me, but my wife is also a fan.

I'd say Aceves should be added to the not-short list of pitching mistakes Cash has made. Not that I think he's closer material.

Yeah, here's the story. It's really pissed off the locals. "Can you imagine Belicheck doing that? Can you imagine Joe Torre doing a show on WEEI while he was still managing the Yankees?"

I think Bobby suspects that his tenure with Boston will be limited, and he wants to keep his hand in the NY media scene, so as to improve his prospects for gainful employment afterward. Which is not stupid of him.

7) Oh, snap, I had not heard that. It won't be dull, that's for sure.

Yeah, tough break for the Sox. Think Cash wishes he'd a kept Aceves?

There are so many good teams in the AL. Should be a good summer. Let's hope it's an even better October.

Well, I'm sorry for Emily's sake, but as far as I'm concerned Frankie ran out of cute last year.

In local news: Alfredo Aceves is going to be the Red Sox' closer. And they will carry 13 pitchers on their 25 man roster.

And is one of our Banter writers going to comment on Bobby Valentine's weekly scheduled appearance on Michael Kay's show?

This is going to be a fun season.
