That was a weird game, though. The Yankees hit a ton of atom balls. I wouldn't read too much into it. Hughes also got victimized by a fluky play at 1st base by Texieria.

[9] Yes, similar to a scallion but garlicky. Not short for anything, just ramps.

I missed the game, but Hughes' secondary numbers look decent. The two homers is the bad part, and he got stung by an enormous BABIP (and you know how painful that can be).

Is "ramps" short for something? Have they been around for awhile? Seems to be like a scallion. Is that close? Flavor like a leek?

Nehah, evah hoid of 'em.

Dictionary tells me it's a wild onion with a small bulb.

Do people eat takenoko (bamboo babies) in the USA? Great stuff. How about gobo (burdock roots)? Zesty source of fiber.

Never had ramps, though I've been wanting to try them since reading this article. My usual farmer's market doesn't open until June. I might have to take a drive and see if there are any farm stands open yet.

(6) Going to be a good race in the NL East methinks. Very close. Boston laying the smack down against the Rays also interesting. Dogfight ahead as we expected..

PhilthyPhil: career ERA+100, WHIP 1.305...in almost 450 innings. He's just not that great (but now awful by any means!)

Meanwhile, how about those Amazin's in Queens...?!

One thing about commenting this early in the season, it's obvious that 8 games a small sample size makes. However, sample size be damned! This is not nice to look at:

Cano: .229 .289 .314 .603 OPS
ARod: .226 .351 .387 .738 OPS
Teix: .188 .297 .250 .547 OPS
Grandy: 188 .297 .469 .766 OPS

Those numbers are almost impossibly bad.
4 such talented players ALL being so bad?

Yeah... it's very early..... but WHOLLY SHIT!

Dude, the ramps look great. We got some lettuce and other greens today, also some eggs.

As far as the game goes, Phelps was indeed the bright spot today.
