I think that's a good point but a bad analogy (Mays) because Dr. J with the Nets is the REASON for the ABA merger with the NBA. He put that league on the star map. And his All-Star Game dunk in a Nets uniform is as famous as anything he did in the NBA, including the behind the basket move vs. the Lakers. I'm not saying the Nets are as significant a franchise as the Knicks but the Knicks are damn close to the Mets or Jets as a group of jagoffs. And I like the Knicks!

[6] I get that but it's championships that count, no matter how far back those championships happened - no?

Al, Dr. J is great, but is he ever really remembered as a Net or a Sixer? Nobody ever remembers Willie Mays with the Mets.

Yeah, that Mets, Nets, Jets argument is a little facile. And the Knicks never had a star as great as Long Island's own Julius Erving.

Dimelo, the Nets have been to the finals more recently--twice--than the Knicks. When the Knicks had Kidd, Jefferson and Carter--and before that Kidd, Jefferson and Martin--they were far superior to the Knicks. It really wasn't that long ago.

Eff the Nets. I could never stand them, never will. The Yankees are to the Knicks, as the Mets are to the Nets...funny how all the NY third rate teams are the Mets, Jets, and Nets. Only one letter makes them different, but the losing, the sucking, and being the illegitimate younger brother of the more successful older brother is what makes them all alike.
