I watched his interview with Stephen Colbert today; one of the most hilarious pieces of entertainment ever. I started laughing and could not stop. I, then, listened to his last interview with Terry Gross on Fresh Air, NPR. I started to cry and could barely stop.

Rest in peace, Maurice. I too believe that you will see Jack again.

Ohhhhh.
His drawings evoke my earliest memories. And the simple but utterly original stories, and the whole color of childhood. I never knew a whole lot about the man, and never wanted to.

(But Good Night Moon is by Margaret Wise Brown, and a very different sort of book -- I can see how the pictures are a bit Sendakian...)

I was late in discovering Maurice Sendak, but my kids know him very well through their good friend Little Bear, even if they don't know how well they know him.

Rest in peace.
