His drawings evoke my earliest memories. And the simple but utterly original stories, and the whole color of childhood. I never knew a whole lot about the man, and never wanted to. (But <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Goodnight-Moon-Margaret-Wise-Brown/dp/0694003611" rel="nofollow">Good Night Moon</a> is by Margaret Wise Brown, and a very different sort of book -- I can see how the pictures are a bit Sendakian...) Ohhhhh.
