He's looking like the last two years of AJ, who we should have kept instead of paying him to play for the Pirates(how is he 15-4?). I have no long term faith in Nova either.

[3] I think the real issue is that last year he knew-how-to-win™. Once he gets that back he'll be fine.

More seriously: 1.452, 1.331, 1.454.

That is Nova's WHIP for 2010, 2011, 2012. The reality is that he puts too many guys on base. It looks to me like last year's success was the product of luck more than anything else.

[1] & [2] 2012 Nova has swapped grounders for strikeouts, homers and extra base hits. I'd be willing to pencil him in as a fifth starter next year to see if he can find a way to combine the grounders and the whiffs and cut back on the fly balls. On a shortish leash.

I do not have long term faith in Nova.
It was great when he burst on the scene, unhyped, and gave the Yankees value.* But he's just not a good pitcher. I guess I could stand him as the fifth guy in the rotation, but I have no real expectations anymore.

--------

*Mr OK, I assume this generally just means he adds a lot to the team given his cost. Maybe it's just SABREmetricians trying to sound like economists?

The wife wanted a backyard fire tonight and I figured why not because I knew Nova was pitching. I looked at the tv at 2-1 and heard that Jeter had homered. Next time I looked Ugly had just grand slammed and it was 6-2. I have long term faith in Nova, I really do. But he has been fucking garbage as of late.
