Thanks for this Alex. Wish I could celebrate but record shops that close make me so sad..one of the many reasons I love living here is the plethora of vinyl only shops and bars that have stayed open. For a music geek it's heaven.

my brother and i are massive music collectors. different styles of music than the above though... i'm mostly all cd's, while he is cd & vinyl. we spend hours upon hours in record stores; it's an event! he still gets to go tool around shops & conventions in NY, whereas i buy mostly online nowadays...

our local neighborhood shop closed it's doors about 3 years ago. it was sad. we still see the owner at record shows and it's possible he opens up a smaller shop again...

it's great when a knowledgeable guy at a store knows his customers' tastes. i don't find it offensive at all, if they think something is not for me.

there was an *amazing* record store at Penn State and that's how i got into Blue Note Records. they weren't even musicians, but they knew their music! every week, i'd go in there and let them chose which would be my next record - Hank Mobley "Workout", Dexter Gordon "Dexter Calling", Sonny Clark "Cool Struttin'", etc. etc.

it was a great education that complemented my Classical studies in a very necessary way!
