Bingo. Nutshell. Exactamundo.

It is like a perfect storm of things going wrong.
Not much you can do about recent injuries, and losing Teix really hurts.

… Granderson: (outside of the last 2 games) has been a replacement level player.
… BP: has gone from Hot to Not
… CC: hasn’t been terrible, but certainly NOT the Ace we need (and paid for)
… Jones: 100% dead
… Raul: 90% dead
… SP: Inconsistant as hell. Garcia, Hughes, Phelps can look above average one game, to totally cooked the next, and back and forth, and back and forth.

This ALL has been going on so long, it’s hard to know if this IS the team, or just a slump.

I think Andy will help. Not sure about Nova. Not sure if Teix will be back. Not sure if Jeter (ankle) can avoid losing playing time.

As the team stands now, they may have a chance to make the PS, but really, is anything but an immediate exit possible?

It is frustrating watching a Yankee team eke out a win against a team like the Sox that have been gutted, (and even Pedroia was out of the game). But they still beat the Sox.

This was the first back to back win since Mid-August, so it is certainly something to build on. They had a graphic last night that this is the first time in MLB history that a team in first place has not won back to back games in almost 30 games and still been in 1st place. Yay! The Yankees set another record.

This Rays series is big. The Rays are 4 games back and pissed after losing to the O’s.

Let’s get those retired exotic dancers of Mystique and Aura back to work at the stadium, and punish the Devildogs!!!!

The Big Stein will be rolling over in his grave if he has to watch Tampa beat us again.

Until their bats come alive and the thumpers resume their thumpin’, I remain cautious (skeptical, frustrated). So far, almost everyone not named Jeter on offense looks lost(ish). Granderson and Cano’s hrs feel like anomalies. This team is messing with my mood and I’m somewhat of an asshole to begin with. Ok, I ranted. Inching my way back to hopeful.

I love this blog too.

The O’s will sink at some point. I’m sure of it. 19 more games. And I just saw Josh Beckett rip a ball into right field only to be gunned down by 2 steps at first by Beltran. heh-heh.

Kuroda did pitch well (as did Hughes tonight), and the Yanks should have swept this series. The hitting has got to be better, and should get better. When that happens, they will pull away.

Congratulations to Derek Jeter. You really can’t compare Mays to Jeter, but I would take both on my GOAT team.

So the Yankees finish the road trip at 5-5, still tied for first place, despite the fact that the offense remains enigmatic. Kuroda, Phelps, and Hughes all gave them good starts in Boston, so that’s something to build on.

Next stop, Yankee Stadium.
