Great stuff. Herskowitz also served as the first PR Director of the American Football League. He’s had an incredible career in sports.

3) Hilarious story. Oh yeah, his sense of humor has always been evident. “Serious” was the wrong word. I should have said he seems way to smart (erudite) to have used “groovy” in conversation.

2) My wife knows someone who went to a Yankee game recently with Paul Simon. Two young girls, in their twenties, sat in front of him. At one point, one of the girls turned to him and said, “Are you a musician?”

He said, “Yes.”

“Did you play at my barmitzvah in 1999?”

“In 1999?” he said and thought about it for a beat. “No, that wasn’t me.”

He also had some good bits on SNL over the years.

and so funny to me that Simon actually said “groovy”. I guess everybody said it at the time, and of course he did the song “Feelin’ Groovy” but that cracks me up for some reason. Simon seems like too serious a guy to have used groovy in a conversation.

this is great, alex. stirs up memories too. one of my dad’s best friends was chris schenkel. they met on a business thing and became pals for life. he was such a sweet, decent man. as kind as they come. grew up in indiana and never left. had a farm down there and grew popcorn. a great guy.
