aw. so sad to see him go. i was lucky enough to see him play at tanglewood at the jazz festival a couple times about a decade ago. he was wonderful. the music, of course, was great. but the best part was the delight he clearly took in the fact that he was a guy who got to play delirious piano tunes with a band in weird time signatures for a living. i think he was in his 80's by then and he still played like an inspired madman. all smiles. wonderful.

I love the tune Concordia he did a few years back with Yo-Yo Ma, and his son, Matt. Great holiday tune.
Brubeck was a fantastic player and composer. He was blessed with a long and productive life, and a tremendous gift.

Oh, man, I hadn't heard.
I'm commiserating with my son. We were both big fans. Are.

Sad that it happens this way but also nice to see such respect pouring out on Twitter, etc for Brubeck. Musicians really dug him even if the critics sometimes did not. [5] I need to check that out, have not heard it.

I would implore everyone to seek out a track called Summer Song, one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, with Louis Armstrong as vocalist. If this doesn't get you through the cold harsh winter, nothing will.

we lost a legend. brubeck was an absolute gem and musical master. hugely influential on me, especially with the mixing of odd-meter in jazz.

i was on a pretty massive brubeck kick just earlier this year. i'll be spinning those discs now...

RIP, Mr. Brubeck. thanks for a lifetime of timeless music in a variety of time signatures!

2) Yes, his music was really personal for some people. I just got off the phone with a friend who, in his mourning, expressed why Brubeck meant so much to him. I will put that up, along with some of Brubeck's records, tomorrow.

Thank you Alex. I was devastated when I read of his passing this morning. I had the good fortune to see him perform twice within the past year. Still warm, witty, engaging with the audience. Still could play the s*** out of the piano too.
