[6] BOTH pretty special. Checked out the Hano on Google. What would I do without a computer and Google? Just a sidenote: Hano wasn't optomistic about Mays becoming a great hitter.

6) That's a great book. Written by Albert Brooks' half-brother, Charlie Einstein.

Though I think that Arnold Hano's depiction of The Catch in "A Day in the Bleachers" is my favorite.

"They invented the all-star game for Willie," said Ted Williams. I suggest you all read Willie's Time, one of my favorite baseball books. It traces Willie's career in history. The recounting of the Catch is best ever written. Look up piece on Keene, too.

I was at the game in 1972 retold here. Also saw Willie play in the Polo Grounds against Mets on July 15, 1962, the day after my 15th birthday during Mets first season. He went hitless. BTY, Don Larsen pitched in the game and Harvey Keene played. Couple of HoFers, too. I looked it up.

Look forward to reading this later.
[1][2] Mays above all those guys. 660 taters with two missed seasons..easy to project him breaking Ruth's record while playing all-world D in CF. Best ever!

You are probably right about Willie.

Mays, Aaron, Bonds...Yeah, I know with Barry comes complications and anger but he's in the conversation.

Heard an interesting conversation on MLB radio. When Joe D passed away, they said he had been the "greatest living ballplayer." Ted Williams was often called the "greatest living hitter" (although not all-around ballplayer). With both of them gone, and Stan the Man gone too, is it legit to call Willie Mays the "greatest living ballplayer?" I think so. (Henry Aaron might be #2 on the list, but lacked all of Willie's tools.) This from a "kid" who used to claim that the Mick was better than Willie, and then a couple of years later that the Mick WOULD have been better if he hadn't been injured so much.
