Remember when all was right in the world and the Yankees were 8-2? Well, a week and five consecutive losses later, they’re 8-7 and can’t seem to score any runs. Sunday’s four-run “outburst” matched their output from the previous day, but they’d only scored five runs total in the first three games of the losing streak, and when you look at the averages in the box score it isn’t hard to tell why. Look away if you’re squeamish.
Batting Averages
| Name | Batting Average |
|---|---|
| Trent Grisham | .133 |
| Jazz Chisholm, Jr. | .179 |
| Randall Grichuk | .000 |
| J.C. Escarra | .000 |
| Austin Wells | .154 |
| Ryan McMahon | .114 |
| José Caballero | .146 |
And this doesn’t even include Aaron Judge at .214 or Clay Bellinger at .241. Everyone not named Ben Rice, Giancarlo Stanton, or Amed Rosario has been a huge disappointment thus far, but at least there’s good news — none of these numbers can last much longer. And not for nothing, but remember all those fans who were ready to run Anthony Volpe out of town? If you haven’t heard from them lately it’s because they’re busy planning his homecoming party.
But the main thing is this — we haven’t even gotten to the middle of April, and even with this recent slide, your Yankees are still tied for first place, and that’s never a bad thing.

Well, looks like Judge may have figured things out.
Shoddy defense hurts Warren there. First the error on Caballero, then what would’ve been an error on Goldschmidt if we were allowed to assume a double play — or at least assume an out at second. It’s stupid.
So Warren is getting hit hard, but this inning could’ve been so different. Cruising through three, his defense betrayed him, and then things fell apart. Now the bullpen will have to get 19 outs in the first game of a four-game series with no off days in sight. It’s the small things.
Early pinch hitters? Walks? Home runs? Seven runs? I don’t even recognize this team.
Still looks like Judge may have figured things out.
I’m happy to continue talking in this empty room as long as the Yankees agree to continue hitting home runs.
Thanks for the new thread, Hank. I missed the early start of the season when the Yankees were acgtually winning. I have seen most of the soon to be 6 game losing streak. Tonight has been especially painful. Blow a 4-0, 7-4, 8-7 lead. Just brutal.
The worst. If the Yankees hit four home runs, two by Judge, score eight runs, and still can’t snap their losing streak… what will it take?
I thought this game was sealed when Grisham hit his three-run home run. The worst part is I have to listen to the Angels announcers.
I mean, I know Trout is an all-time great, but these guys just can’t stop gushing — even when he’s catching routine flyballs. “Such a great jump for Trout. He just makes it look so easy!” Um, because he really didn’t have to move.
This game is disgusting.
No lies told. Woof.
This game is still stupid.
Holy cow!
That’s exactly the way a stupid game should end.
Would’ve been really nice for McMahon to get a hit there, but a stupid win is much better than a really stupid loss.
Cheers! I don't want to watch any more games like that this year. Yikes.
Honestly, we were robbed of something that would’ve been fun. McMahon took ball four at the end. If there hadn’t been a wild pitch, we’d have seen Judge come to the plate in a tie game with the bases loaded and no one out with a chance to really put a bow on a great individual game. It’s a shame.
4/14/26
Another BAD loss. We got creamed. Managed to pound out 5 hits.
Why rest BOTH Bellinger and Rice in the same game. It's not like we have that much offense. Frustrating. I sometimes wonder why I so look forward to baseball season.
Sorry I’ve not been around lately. Living with and dealing with two 90+ y.o. parents is exhausting.
It's Wednesday night. Anybody home?
Interesting to note that even though Judge is hitting below expectations, he currently leads the league in home runs.
Two-out single to drive in two? I like it!
Ten home runs in three games for the Angels so far.
Just imagine losing a game like that. Wow.
I’ll say this, though — incredibly bold move to send Austin Wells.
Trout has had a rough couple of years due to injury. It's nice to see him getting back to his old self.
Regardless of how this game ends, the story of the week will be this matchup between Trout and Judge. Eight home runs between them so far, with six innings yet to play. Unbelievable.
[27] Yes, it's good to see Trout playing at this level again. Last year there was talk out here that he should think about retiring. I don't think we'll be hearing talk like that this season.
Okay, part of the story will be about the dumpster fire currently burning in the Yankee bullpen. But Trout (5) and Judge (4) will still be the lede.
JUDGE with #8 but....
WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH OUR PITCHING??????
Something else that can't be overlooked -- the Angels should've swept this series. But man, the bullpen issues need to be addressed.
Trout went 6-for-16 with five homers and nine RBIs in the series. He has homered in his past five games at Yankee Stadium.
From ESPN
"The Angels had three home runs Thursday to bring their series total to 13, the most the Yankees have allowed in a home series in franchise history, according to ESPN Research.
It was also a rare loss for the Yankees when Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton homer in the same game. Including the postseason, New York is 53-8 when the duo both connect"
Rice is turning into a monster!
I don’t envy pitchers who will have to navigate Rice-Judge-Bellinger-Stanton for the next few months.
Oh boy, Yankees Sawx
Stantonian!
Caballero and Judge cost Rice a strikeout. Actually the umpire did.
So, Rice and Judge have combined this evening for an OPS of .452.
Naturally the Yankees are manhandling the Red Sox.
All ya need is pitching and Big G.
It's true.
Two Big G's, I guess. Gil came up large today.
Wow, and the Celtics lost, so no solace for RSN. Oh but the Bruins are winning.
At risk of feeding the hype machine, I'll present this without comment.
George Lombard, Jr., at AA Sommerset.
.382/.453/.709 through 14 games. Also of note, he is one of the youngest players in the league, one of just ten players in their age-21 season or younger. The Yankees have been reluctant to have players jump two levels, so I doubt we'll see him in the Bronx this season, but he could show up in Scranton before too long.
Nice to start off with 3 runs
Sawx pull a Yankees, 2nd & 3rd, no outs. 3 Ks
Stanton is heating up.
Rats, no shut out
[41] He needs to work on his grammar.*

Bases loaded, no outs is always tough for the Yankees hitters.
Jazz!
Would have been nice if that happened with bases loaded, but at least it is tied now.
I’m not bad that Stanton has struck out four times, twice with the bases loaded — I’m just happy Belly and Judge came through. Let’s go!
Pretty huge double play there. Every out this bullpen doesn’t have to get is like a gift.
A lead!
Seems like a bad non-challenge there.
I love that Boone let Schlittler pitch the eighth. Such a great night for him.
League leader in ABS challenges by Caballero? That does not make sense. I assume that he has gotten some right, but I haven't seem him be correct.
[53] Did you think he missed second base? I couldn't tell, but didn't see him touching second.
Sweeping the Sox in Fenway? Yes!
Sweep of the Sawx!
[56] Didn’t look he touched second to me. But nothing to worry about now!
Gosh that was a fun series. Extremely satisfying, with the comeback win at the end.
You have no idea how much this improves the qualify of life of Yankee fans living in RSN.
[60] I can imagine. And the comeback win itself had such a nice subplot. The hometown hero/villain comes back and looks to be outdueled by Boston's young prospect, who's fist-pumping after striking guys out in the third inning. And then suddenly only Schlittler remains, calmly blowing guys away in the seventh and eighth -- even though he didn't have his best stuff!
Oh, and what about this insane stat about Bellinger's pinch-hit single. He was the first Yankee with a pinch-hit go-ahead RBI in Fenway since Elston Howard in 1967. That's so preposterous that I want to think maybe Jack Curry was wrong when he said that last night, but that's what he said. Unbelievable.
[61] That was a particularly satisfying moment.
Nice little sub-sub-plot: this morning I was listening to Rob Bradford on the radio. (He's a local baseball radio guy, kind of goofy but in a somewhat endearing way.) He said he was talking to Cody before the game, and Cody bought one of Rob's "Baseball Isn't Boring" merch caps and put it on, which highlighted for Rob the difference in mood between the two teams. (He was also dismayed that nobody heckled Cam in the bullpen before the game despite its being a golden opportunity.)
[62] Schlittler mentioned something about this during his postgame interview. He was asked if there was any extra heckling in the bullpen, and he said, "Not really. Cody was out there with his camera, so it wasn't too bad." I can't imagine why there wasn't a follow-up question, but I assume Bellinger went out there to protect him by recording any yahoos who might step over the line.
Holy holy — Red Sox cleaning house! No tears shed here.
