And I’m thinking, meh. [Big Jackie Mason shrug, like only a good Irish boy from NY can do it.] These things happen.

Like when Sojo tripped over his own shoelaces in the playoffs in Oakland that time.

Whaddayagonnado? You thought they were going 139-23 maybe? Meh.

[3] An ace couldn’t stop this. The pitching is not the problem.

[2] What word describes this skid? Team looks worse than I expected. Don’t think A-Rod’s return will make a difference. He will be playing himself back into some kind of shape. Just remember, we still don’t have a clue what his condition is. And, Youk, for whatever he is worth, will be day-to-day for the rest of the season. No ace to stop the skidding, either. Remind me. Who pitched last night?

Jete may be the biggest question mark of all. What can he do to stem the tide? At least Reid won’t be playing or on the bench, I hope. But you never know. More injuries await. I hope to live long enough to see the rebuilding.

This a replacement lineup, not the lineup that Cash and Joe drew up in the beginning of the season. Four major cogs out of the lineup for much of the season so far, I’m not gonna give these guys a hard time because they were playing well above their expectations. This was the kind of thing that was anticipated all through spring in fact, so there’s not much need to get jumpy until they have their starters back. If they go on a fantabulous skid then, that’s when you worry about it.

7.1 for Gee, not 8.1 – but who’s counting
