I guess I should have said four buildings; I wasn't thinking of the Municipal Building in the background (though I'm fully aware of the ugly Walmart next to it), I was thinking more of the church in the foreground which is still there and is the only church on that street still standing. Good job, RI as usual.

The building going up in the middle is indeed the Lawyers Building, completed in 1926, and the picture was taken the same year. Funny that this building is not listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but the Home Savings Bank Building (officially the Peoples National Bank and Trust Building) is; so are a few other buildings in the immediate vicinity that weren't torn down during the urban renewal program of the 60s-80s. I will say it could use a good cleaning inside and out though...

Yeah, I came up blank on this. Early traffic control didn't work, nor did just "Home Savings Bank." Couldn't make out anything on the construction sign.

Gary, the church in the picture has been replaced by a truly ghastly Walmart.
Your id of the town would have saved me about half my research time :-)

Oh, the "show your math" part.
To get started I guessed it was Westchester. I first tried "Romanesque Westchester building" but for some reason Google thought I was looking for the Renaissance hotel! (Does Google really correct what it thinks are mistakes in naming historical eras???) I added "1924" (just guessing by the cars in the picture) but that got me Spann House, which is in Yonkers. That might have misled me but the first page of google hits had several other Westchester towns mentioned as having Romanesque architecture.

"Home Savings Bank" (which is not the Romanesque building) plus Westchester got me in range and I concluded it was in White Plains.
That got me to the White Plains Library page I linked above. So that was one building. The others I got by 'walking around' the google maps neighborhood.

Yeah, I think I found your source page. I defer to RIYank for the correct answers. Although I think the year is closer to 1930 from your clue.

Had to chime in, since it's my home town of White Plains. Somewhat surprising that the buildings are still up after the urban renewal of the 60's and 70's.

The Home Savings Bank is now a Buffalo Wild Wings!
The Lawyers Building is a commercial complex with a Chase bank on the corner.
The Municipal Building appears to still be the Municipal Building! It's City Hall, containing the administrative offices for the city.

I think the photo is 1926, because the construction is not finished on the Lawyers Building.
