Even more agonizing than watching that ninth, I was sneaking peeks at my At Bat app during a birthday dinner for my wife. (Yes, she caught me, but wasn’t upset.) I was also wondering about Betances’s fastball. It was one curve after another. A very unsettling win, but they all count the same.

I only get to hear them occassionally, like when I’m in the car and XM has the home feed. I’m not particularly fond of them, but they are not a complete turn-off. I do recall when announcers actually announced, and painted pictures with words. Sculley still does. I remember Red Barber calling Maris’ 61st: “There it is, number 61.” and then silence for a minute (at least that’s how I remember it 50+ years ago).

Good that you had the TV on while listening to Ma. and Pa. otherwise how would you know what was happening? Many more!

That write-up was funny. Sounds like quite a party. I like Man and Pa, too. I quit the game after the 8th and was rereading last nigh’s game thread. One on of the more suspenseful things I’ve read since The Shining. Holy shit. Glad I missed it. Happy belated, AB.
