In general, I don’t think it’s a problem to occasionally put a bad outfielder like the 2022 version of Stanton in right field, but the 2023 version is a huge problem. He’s obviously not healthy. So the question now isn’t whether or not he can become a good outfielder. He can’t. The question is whether or not he can return to his 2022 “form,” when he could at least run after a fly ball.

Stanton probably needs to play forty games in right field in 2024, just to allow others to cycle through that DH spot. Since this whole comment is teetering on the edge of fantasy, let’s imagine that he’s healthy and plays 140 games. If he hits 35 home runs during those 140 games (I know), I can live with forty games of subpar defense in right.
