Left of Center

Just how important is it to have left-handed pitching, particularly left-handed starting pitching [1]? Neither the Red Sox or the Yankees (or the Astros or Cardinals) had any left-handed starters in the playoffs this past year. But the word around town is that the Yankees are craving one, if not two southpaws for their 2005 rotation. The Daily News [2] delineates possible Yankee plans today, while the Times reports that the Bombers may have interest in a lefty of a different kind–get this–first baseman Carlos Delgado [3]. (Umm, huh?)
