As the Derek Jeter or Alex Rodriguez-to-center field ^[1] story ^[2] gained steam yesterday, it was refuted by both Brian Cashman ^[3] and Joe Torre. That didn’t stop Steven Goldman ^[4], Mike Lupica ^[5], and Murray Chass ^[6] from weighing in on the matter though. Even if the story is just that, a story ^[7], it managed to capture the back page of both the Daily News and Newsday on a day when Billy Wagner ^[8] and the Mets ^[9] were celebrating their new union.

In other news, the team is reportedly ^[10] interested in signing relievers Flash Gordon, Kyle Farnsworth ^[11] and Mike Myers ^[12]. They also came to a one-year deal worth $650,000 with Kelly Stinnett ^[13] to replace John Flaherty as Jorge Posada’s back-up.
