While former shortstop Alex Rodriguez [1] was honored at a dinner held by the New York chapter of the Baseball Writer’s of America on Sunday night, the Red Sox have reportedly [2] picked up a shortstop of their own, another Alex, Alex Gonzalez (who will presumably be backed-up by Alex Cora). Gonzalez will join Josh Beckett to help give the Yankees warm memories of the 2003 World Serious. A lousy hitter–who has displayed some pop over the course of his career–Gonzalez is known as a fine defensive player.
