I was a little too young for the original SNL.  I remember the end of the Bill Murray years and when I was in middle school the Eddie Murphy-Joe Piscapo was a big deal.  A few years later, I loved the Billy Crystal-Martin Short ^[1]-Harry Shearer ^[2]-Christopher Guest ^[3]stuff–which you never see in re-runs these days–but I never really loved the show after that.  Some bits and performers here and there, sure, but never as an “event.”
