Starting this baseball season, Time Warner Cable subscribers who receive the YES Network in the Yankees’ home broadcasting territory will be able to purchase a package of YES’ New York Yankees game telecasts for live in-market online viewing.

The Yankees on YES Live Game Streaming in-market package will launch in conjunction with YES’ Sunday, April 4, season-opening Yankees-Red Sox telecast (8 pm ET). YES Network will offer the package to eligible Time Warner Cable customers for $69.95 for the entire 2010 regular season, or $19.95 for any 30-day period this regular season. . . .

YES Network will allow eligible Time Warner Cable customers to purchase this package and use high-speed Internet access to watch YES’ Yankees telecasts live on their computers throughout the Yankees’ entire home broadcasting territory. They also will be able to watch YES’ Yankees telecasts live on laptops or other portable computers via WiFi. . . .

• Phil Niekro ^[3], who went 32-20 with a 3.59 ERA in two seasons with the Yanks (’84-’85), turns 71 today.

• On a personal note, this is my last ‘News Update/News of the Day’ column.  I’m not leaving the Banter staff, but I do have other outside writing opportunities I’d like to pursue.  I WILL be writing for the Banter on an ad-hoc basis, with a new column called ‘Bantermetrics’, which will be similar in nature to ESPN.com’s Jayson Stark’s “Useless Information” feature (statistical oddities, in this case involving the Bombers).  The column will also include longer, more serious analysis of more-general questions.  As an example, I’m currently working on an evaluation of whether the Yankees truly have been “older than average” in terms of their roster from a historical perspective.  I hope you’ll enjoy this new column, and I thank you deeply for your support of this column for these past 17 months.
