He should have asked. He should have asked a lot of questions about where the material for the paintings came from. Because many appear to be near identical recreations of other paintings and photographs.
In fact, the painting titled "Opium" that he describes is a line by line copy of an old photograph. Maybe Dylan bought the photo in Asia, but otherwise it has nothing to do with his travels.
