Tough. Oh how I wanted the Yankees to trade for him. He was the kind of player who would walk on hot coals for his team - that game Emma mentions in 2008 was a prime example. The Boss would have called him a warrier - and he was. Sad way for it to end.

i've always had a soft spot for the small framed pitchers that pitched "bigger."
so talented when he was healthy. that lefty change-up was another pitch a batter knew was coming but just had little chance to do anything with it. and i always liked that he was a rule 5 pick who made good.

What a shame. I, too, wanted Santana, even after the first shoulder injury when I thought the Mets would be smart to unload him. As a lefty in Yankee stadium I thought he'd put up awesome numbers. Sad end to a great pitcher and a great competitor.
