Remember the Giants on Monday Night Football in Denver that night too. It poured in North Jersey and I stayed up late downloading old hair metal songs from Napster. Weird, the things you remember.

I was in NYC with my wife. Our last holiday without children. In fact, my daughter was conceived during that trip. We boarded an AA flight at Laguardia to LAX that morning.

The most interesting part, to me, was that on 9/9 my wife took a photo of me on the Brooklyn Bridge with a perfect view of the Twin Towers in the background.

We went to Maloney & Porcelli prior to heading up to the Stadium to see the Rocket extend his record to 20-1. But when the rain wouldn't stop, we went to the Park Ave. Country Club to watch the Giants lose on MNF. At least got to see Phil Simms there. Then the world changed.

My wife and I were living In Annapolis at the time. It was a school night and the wife and I were watching tv. Chances are she was giving me shit for watching football teams I don't care about.

I was here in Tokyo, studying for the national Japanese Language exam.
Evening of the 11th (13 hrs ahead) I got back to the house I rented a room in. Owner was an American university Prof here, Vietnam War veteran. Odd guy, but very nice. He simply called me upstairs to the living room and said 'I think you'll want to watch this.' After an hour he snorted and said 'Well, they really got us this time. Been a long time coming.', then snapped off the TV and went up with his wife to bed. Lot of frantic mailing and calls to my people in NYC, everyone was OK. Was very strange to get a few hours sleep, then head out in a daze into the streets of Tokyo where life was flowing along as normal..

I was at that game with my girlfriend (now wife) and her parents meeting my parents for the first time. Waited in the stands until they called it and hung out a while longer just gabbing.

Her parents woke up crack of dawn on 9/11 and drove home to Washington DC.

I was in the Student Government office at Hunter College, designing flyers and pages for my close friend's magazine before and after classes. I remember walking home from the subway at Castle Hill Avenue, thinking about what lay ahead for the next week or so with homework and the various extra-curricular things I was doing, then talking with my magazine friend over the phone for the next few hours until I dozed off to sleep. Just an ordinary day with more to come next afternoon.
