Come Fly With Me

womanstep

Rest in Peace to Frank Sinatra Jr. A few years ago, we reprinted Tom Junod’s fantastic profile of Frankie Jr. You should check it out.

Meanwhile, over at Esquire Classic, I interviewed novelist Colum McCann this week and collected a group of stories about the “Greed is Good” 1980s.

Baseball. Right. Baseball, I remember, I remember. Man, I’ve got no idea what’s going on. I glance at the headlines and I’ve seen a few moments of exhibition games on TV; otherwise, nada. And I don’t mind it, actually. I like the idea of going into the season not knowing anything about the Yanks.

But, since you guys are more aware of what’s what, do tell: what’s got you excited—or not excited—about this season?

What do CC and Alex have left?

Health seems to be the issue - Starters, Ellsbury,Gardy, & Tex. They stay healthy, could be interesting. The commentariat seems divided between Boston and Toronto for the AL East; given how tough the competition is among all of the teams in the division, and the liklihood of them knocking each other off, hard to see the Yanks sneaking in as a WC. But hell, it's baseball!

Not expecting much of this season except the further development of prospects we're all anticipating will have a big impact when they arrive as well as the young guys we've acquired the past couple of years. If the older players embraced the young ones, I'd be far more interested in what this team is doing this Spring, but for now all I hear about is something else the Yankees have said or done to embarrass or annoy the fan base and I'm simply tired of that. Like Alex, I believe it would be much easier to enjoy the game if you could tune out the 24 hour news cycle.

Been down gulfside for a week or so, going over to watch the young Yanks play the Jays and Phils minor leaguers. It's baseball heaven, several games at once on adjoining fields. Hope to see Judge et al. With the big club expect Castro,Hicks and Ref to add to the offense early. Ackley has a good bat as well. The local radio are sure the Rays are good but they think that every year. Snow coming for you?

Grrr. LoHud was my go-to source for Yankee news, after the Banter, of course. Now they are asking me to subscribe. The noive!

Anyone else have that experience? Is there a reasonable work around?

I already pay for MLB Premium, and my International NY Times/Japan Times home-delivery subscription (36 bucks a month!) includes the NYT online version. I ain't shelling out for no more content.

Dang, I loved the old LoHud.

[5] Yeah. Now I go to Replacement Level Yankee Weblog and River Ave. Blues for news.

5) I think this is the way things are going. In order for publishers to survive they have to start charging for content. But we're used to getting so much for free now it's tough to think of having to pay. It's a good question—do you value Lo Hud enough to pay for it?

How is Eovaldi and Pineda looking this spring?

Have you tried accessing Lohud using incognito mode on Google Chrome? Try that ;-)

11 seamus   ~  Mar 18, 2016 5:38 pm

[9] ok i got rid of the mobile view issue. mlb.tv still having technical difficulties. I am a technical difficulty so I get it.

12 seamus   ~  Mar 18, 2016 5:41 pm

13 rbj   ~  Mar 18, 2016 6:12 pm

Yikes, this is bad.

14 rbj   ~  Mar 18, 2016 6:52 pm

[13] Jazz Jr: 'Daddy, McCann is even slower than you. Why does he always try running to 2nd?'

[0] I hear you, AB. First exhibition game I've watched so far right now, though I'll be ready for Opening Day. I'm kind of excited to see some games with Didi, Castro, Gary Sanchez, Severino and other youngsters. Maybe Cashman can ban Beltran's kids from the cllubhouse, get him to retire and then we can see Judge in RF.

Good thing these are meaningless games. Ref just needs more reps. I hope he can go north.

Rumbelow sounds like a gastrointestinal disorder.

19 rbj   ~  Mar 18, 2016 8:30 pm

No-run DMC? Dellin, Miller and Chapman. Ok Kay gotta give you that one.

20 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Mar 18, 2016 11:31 pm

[16] I think his glove ain't so good..Kay was doing the whole 'that was a tough hop there' but 3Bman had to make that play.

I must be watching the B team.
