The Last Gulp

img_7154

David “Cookie Monster” Ortiz has been kicking Yankee ass almost as long as this blog has been alive. He’s an all-time great Yankee-killer and I will not miss him at all.

C.C.’s on the hill looking for some love from his offense.

Never mind the calendar:

Let’s Go Yank-ees!

cc strikes out the side in the first!

what the fuck is xander bitching about - strike 3 was right down broadway. cc was like, "you're complaining about *that* pitch? fucking shit sox..." these guys are exasperating. and the nesn feed is annoying. one of those guys has a really terrible new england accent. i can't listen...

2 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 6:16 pm

Decent ovation for him.

Good start for CC

3 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 6:19 pm

Jesus Montero with a 50 game suspension for a stimulant. Pineda has at least gotten wins for the Yankees

4 thelarmis   ~  Sep 29, 2016 6:20 pm

[2] that sucks. shoulda been showered with boooooooos.

[3] yeah, i posted that on the last post. i had forgotten he also got smacked w/ 50 games for the biogenesis scandal. he's a triple-a 1st basemen for the blow jays now...

5 thelarmis   ~  Sep 29, 2016 6:23 pm

In honor of Ortiz's last game against the Yanks, he should be hit by a pitch every at-bat. He's certainly earned it.

10 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 6:31 pm

Looks like I picked the wrong time to check my blood pressure.

11 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 6:32 pm

Have a parting K,

12 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 29, 2016 6:35 pm

Have 4 parting Ks Papi.

Good riddence, he tortured, and when the Sox had Papi and Manny batting in order, in big games, the Yankees pitchers hadn't a clue.

13 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 7:03 pm

Damn, foul

14 thelarmis   ~  Sep 29, 2016 7:03 pm

damn. just foul. gary gave it a ride.

15 thelarmis   ~  Sep 29, 2016 7:08 pm

ugh. tie ballgame. : /

16 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 7:08 pm

I'm gonna start hating Boogers

17 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 7:11 pm

Smart, walk him so he does no more damage

18 thelarmis   ~  Sep 29, 2016 7:12 pm

see ya, fat fuck. i certainly won't miss you. i'll never like you. and i'll always hate seeing or reading any footage of your playing days. i hope you disappear from the game and never get elected to the hall of fame. you are a Fat Liar and Big Babi. good riddance!!!

19 thelarmis   ~  Sep 29, 2016 7:12 pm

[16] i will join you!

20 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 7:26 pm

Nice steal, Headley

21 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 7:26 pm

[18] don't hold back, tell us how you really feel.

22 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 29, 2016 7:35 pm

Watched the Teix grand salami this morning, what a way for him to wrap things up.

Huge middle finger to Ortiz and the Sox, Eff 'em. And to the Yankees org, they drop A-Rod like a hot potato then give this windbag a ceremony?

23 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 7:38 pm

Scooter is mad at that "bunt"

24 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 7:47 pm

Got the lead back, and no more Big Poopi!

25 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 7:51 pm

New pitcher for Gary, respect, or fear.

26 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 8:16 pm

Blow this puppy up

Disclaimer: do not actually harm a dog

27 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 29, 2016 8:18 pm

[26] Trying to convince Mrs. Jazz to let us get a dog..it's a long battle and I'm not winning so far.

28 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 8:21 pm

A hit would likely have scored two, so a walk is not as good

29 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2016 8:25 pm

Thelarmis, you secretly like Big Papi, right?

Fess up.

30 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 8:27 pm

[27] Resuce shelter older dog. It most likely would be housebroken, no puppy chewing everything, and it teaches young ones about responsibility to those less fortunate than yourself.

Plus they tend to be less expensive than purebred pups. I'm on #3 & 4. And #3 is less active these days. May have to dig her resting place before winter sets in.

31 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2016 8:29 pm

[1] The NESN guy with the thick accent is Jerry Remy, by the way.

32 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 8:30 pm

Wow, CC for the 7th, at 95 pitches,

33 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 29, 2016 8:32 pm

[30] That's a good idea, but then..well you face the 'death' conversation soon, right? I'll ask about that though. Buying a dog in japan is crazy...people often pay $3000 and up for one.

[31] I got used to Remy. The Sox radio guy though..yikes.

34 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 8:33 pm

There ya go!

35 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2016 8:39 pm

[33] Castiglione, you mean. Funny, I kind of enjoy him! I get a warm feeling when he's announcing a homer for the Sox' opponents.
I mean, honestly, I don't listen to them much. If I'm in the car and there's nothing else on sometimes -- when I can't get the AM station the Yanks are on.

For some reason I don't like Dave O'Brien, the more vanilla middle America sounding guy on NESN tv. It's probably more my problem than his.

36 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2016 8:41 pm

Ohhhhhhh man. Second Just-Foul for Gary tonight.
God he hits that fucking ball hard. Jesus.

37 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 8:42 pm

[33] not necessarily, buried Sparky in March after a couple months shy of 12 years. Longest I lived with a living creature since college.

$75 is the highest adoption fee I've paid. And I had to watch my grandmother come live with us for hospice in 1974, when I was 9. Mom's an RN, so she got to deal with her mother's dying from colon cancer. 5 years later I was burying Snoopy. It's not fun, but death is part of life

38 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 8:43 pm

This is going to turn into a four hour game, isn't it?

39 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 29, 2016 8:43 pm

[35] May the Gods save me from Vanilla Middle America anything.. :)

[37] True, and my wee ones lost their granny already so they're experienced. I'm trying to push for a dauschund, good with kids, small enough for a Japanese house.

40 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 8:47 pm

Stop doing the wave!

41 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2016 8:52 pm

Wow.
Well, nice outing for the big guy. One of the biggest positives of the season, if you think about it. Good comeback.

42 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 8:52 pm

[39] Snoopy, my childhood dog was a dauschund mix, very family friendly, even got to dress him up in a Charlie McCarthy outfit. Owning a pet also teaches responsibility.

Wait CC in the 8th? OK, one batter.

43 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 8:52 pm

After 2017, year to year deal for CC?

44 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2016 8:55 pm

[43] I dunno. At *most*. He could well be done. I really doubt he'll be worth the money he would ask for.

45 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 9:02 pm

[44] 10 mil, plus 5 as a charitable contribution (tax right off) where he wants, to be a fifth starter and mentor?

46 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2016 9:03 pm

No Save situation now!

47 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2016 9:04 pm

[45] Oh, hm. Maybe. I guess $10M is a 2 WAR player, which he could conceivably be.

48 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 9:05 pm

My legs hurt from that McCann run

49 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 29, 2016 9:06 pm

[47] Really? Hmm...I still don't like WAR, it's too general..

50 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2016 9:11 pm

[49] Yeah, when you're thinking about money, it's useful, though.

Arguably CC has value to the team that goes beyond the wins he generates with his ERA, though.

God, this game is just interminable.

51 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 9:19 pm

What numbers does CC need to hit for the HOF, or is he there already?

52 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 9:21 pm

One down

53 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 9:23 pm

Two down

54 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2016 9:24 pm

Hm, I think he probably can't make the Hall. Not too far off, but not Hall level.

55 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2016 9:25 pm

Ballgame over, Yankees win!

Swept.
Not that it means anything, but, winning is better, always.

56 rbj   ~  Sep 29, 2016 9:25 pm

Three down! No hits for Poopi, win for CC, night all!
