"This ain't football. We do this every day." --Earl Weaver
Great piece by Boorstein, a caught it earlier today.
Word has it that Mussina is retiring:

[2] E@#$ confirms. Well, does this mean the Yanks focus on Andy as CC's second as opposed (hopefully) to AJ or Lowe?
Btw, Moose will eventually be a HoF, but not in his first year I predict. His last year gives him a last minute boost, but it will take some time to sway the egalitarian sector...
Oh, and thanks for the memories, Moose. Good that ya got that 20 before you hung em up.
Thanks for everything, Moose.
And Abbot & Costello is a classic.
Cool beans, the Mariners hired Don Wakamatsu as their manager; the first Asian-American manager in MLB (subject to verification?)

Well, good luck with that, although I think that team's gonna need a little bit more than "prodding"...
I think Moose's retirement makes a one-year deal for Pettitte a lock.
@7
Unfortunately. I was really hoping for another year or two of Moose, and Pettitte's departure (heresy, I know).
Well, Mussina retiring is bad news. I don't trust the Yankees to fill his spot responsibly.
Moooooooooooose!
I wonder what he'll do next. Guys with good heads for their sports often go in for coaching, of course, but my gut feeling is that Mike might be a little too smart for that.
I hope he writes a book. That would be cool. Kind of a Life on the Run for baseball.
RIYank, see this post.
Mattpat, they'll fill it with Pettitte.
Monkeypants, me too.
moooooooooooose!
hopefully i can type that again when he gets in the hof.
i'll really miss ole moose, but good for him.
Oh yeah, I remember that posting. Hm, so he'll spend ten days/year doing broadcast work for the LLWS? I don't think so.
But I guess he meant that will be the extent of his continued contact with baseball. He'll be doing something else interesting, I have no doubt.
