It would be really great if I could just be happy for these two teams, the Rangers and the Diamondbacks, but instead I see one team that did what I had hoped the Yankees would do (sign Corey Seager) and another that was only two games better than the Yankees in the regular season, compiling just 84 wins in a much weaker league. Instead of watching the drama of the World Series, I’ll be wondering how these two teams managed to get there.
But you’re probably a better person than I am, so you’ll just be enjoying the games. So what do we think? I’ve got the Rangers in five and dreams that the Yankees will be playing in October next season.
I think Texas in 6. I'm very happy with the participants given who got into the playoffs. I hope we get a Game 7 because it's just so much fun when I don't have anything riding on the outcome.
[1] I've noticed this also. When the games are nothing but entertainment, they provide a lot of entertainment!
14 Championship games and ZERO Wins for the Home team.
Has his ever happened before?
This WS certainly proves that he best teams are not necessarily in it.
So... do we root for Texas simply because they are an American league team?
Rangers have zero WS so I’ll go with them. Ivan Rodriguez looks old.
[3] The Phillies won games 1 and 2 in Philadelphia, and Arizona won one of their home games also. But the road team did win all seven games of the ALCS.
So how about this Adolís García kid, right?
Also, did anyone see that mash-up of Game 4 of the 2001 World Series with Game 1 of this year's version? They cheated a bit (Bush threw out the first pitch of Game 1 this year, but it was actually Game 3 in 2001) but the similarities are striking. A two-run home run ties it with one out in the ninth, and an opposite field home run to right wins it in extras. Must've been brutal for Diamondbacks fans to see all over again...
Congratulations to Aaron Judge winning the Roberto Clemente award.

I guess this is why so many people want the Yankees in the PS?

Gold glove for Volpe
Does Volpe GG cement him at SS forever at the expense of Peraza?
I am firmly in the dump Cashman/Boone camp and this feels like the kind of validation that could keep someone in the role undeservedly forever in this regime.
[9] I'm not sure I feel the linkage.
Everyone clamored for them to call up Volpe, arguably ahead of schedule, and in my view he held his own. He was a light-hitting rookie on a team that hit light up and down the lineup. I haven't liked the pile-on he's received lately.
Volpe's success or failure, either in real terms or in PR terms, doesn't seem to be the determining factor in the rise or fall of Cashman or Boone's stock. That will continue to have more to do with bad signings, badly missed signings, refusing to trade farmhands while also refusing to promote them (a trend Volpe bucked), a too-righty lineup, and crazy bullpen management.
As for Volpe vs. Peraza, wherever you think those chips should fall, I doubt a GG will tie anyone's hands.
That's my overthink for a no-baseball-until-forever Tuesday in November.
