Here Comes the Pain

The sun is poking out from behind a mass of dark greyish-blue clouds in the Bronx this morning.  The sounds of snow shovels dragging along the pavement echoe around the neighbhorhood as New Yorkers prepare themselves for a big-time football game this afternoon at 1 pm.

Giants vs. Eagles. A nice little rivalry, right?

I’ve never been a Giants fan, though I don’t have anything against them.  But thinking about them this morning brought to mind L.T.–the original L.T., Lawrence Taylor–who was certainly the greatest defensive football player of his era:

Here’s hoping for a couple of good games today.  Something good to eat, some smashmouth football.  Sounds about right, huh?

How about Chuck Bednarik and Frank Gifford. How about Sam Huff and Sonny Jurgensen.

Go Giants!

Ted "The Mad Stork" Hendricks and Nick Butkus were L.T. before there was L.T. and they were great without the coke.

I'm just sayin'...

;)

Er, um, make that Dick Butkus... He was pretty good, too...

LOL

I have a particular dislike for Donovan McNabb ever since his "Whtey's holding me down" interview. I'd enjoy it very much if the Giants embarrass him today.

All right, nice kickoff return!

Please let my Steelers be the one home team that does not shit the bed this weekend. OY.

[7] are you from the pitt area?

Well that sucked. G-boys didn't really play well all day.

[8] Upstate NY. My neighbor as a kid was from Pittsburgh. He had an autographed football from some of the 70's greats. As a 7 year old, that was the coolest thing I had ever seen. I was hooked. I went to college in Pittsburgh, though. And my sister lives there now with her family.

[10] What part of upstate? I spent half half my life in Dutchess County; city folk consider it upstate, when in reality it's due east of the middle of nowhere >;)

[12] I know this is sacrilgious for people from NYC, but people from Rochester consider us to be upstate, even though Western NY is more apropos. Probably b/c upstate sounds cooler than western. Ah, semantics. In any case, the black and gold are up at halftime. : )

[3] Butkus and Hendricks did not have anywhere near the quickness or speed of LT. Taylor, like it or not, was just THAT good. The only football player I really ever hear people talking about as being so clearly dominant is Jim Brown, whom I never got to see play (besides old film footage).

[13] NYC'ers consider anything north of The Bronx "upstate"

What's sacrilegious is the way you guys pronounce Chili & Charlotte :)

[15] We're all over Mexico and Egypt, though.

I went to Andy Robustelli's football camp. I now live in Bulington, having moved from a lot of places which were originally Stamford, CT. Giants trained up here, years ago at St. Mikes.

Terrible game. I need a massage and some pasta. I think they tanked. They couldn't have been worse. How about that failed sneak. Woeful.

I used to watch Jim Brown all the time. The best. When he quit, no one could believe it.

Dirty Dozen featured his best run.
