And look at Melky...his .819 OPS puts him 4th among AL CFs.

Of course, the conceptual problem with WHIP is that it equates hits with walks, but some hits are not like walks, in that the hitter gets more than one base for his efforts. Those are called, doubles, triples, and homers, respectively.

A better statistic of overall pitcher effectiveness would be total bases surrendered, less bases caused by errors, divided by innings pitched.

WHIP isn't as flawed/overrated a combined stat as OPS, but I'm not too crazy about it, either.

I could swear I already posted this, but that fellow on the right is no Ted Berg - no offense.

OPS isn't as good as OPS+ or wOBA, but it beats what the MSM usually relies on, like AVG and RBI.

Am I late to this one? http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/marinersblog/2009591133_mariners_turned_down_three-way.html

Wow!! If the BoSox managed to get King Felix I would have broke down in tears..

The Yankees had far more to offer.

I didn't think Seattle was as progressive a town as to engage in three-ways anyhow (ba dum bum).

On the shitty news front, via Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Blog:
"Jesus Montero broke his finger last night and will miss the rest of the year"

[11] He'll only miss a month or so, but that's about how much is left of the mL season. As some have suggested, he could rehab in the Bronx by mid-Sept. and get a small taste of YS.
