We Gotta Have it

fens

The Yanks have the pitching match-ups in their favor this weekend, so why do I keep thinking that thick-necked Brad Penny will throw a good game tomorrow night? Maybe I’ve just got sore feelings left over from the 2003 World Serious. Or maybe I just like to worry. Man, so long as the Yankees don’t get swept, I’ll be straight.

As Tyler Kepner notes, the Yankees still have something to prove in Boston.

[0] There's something about Brad Penny that is rather irritating..not sure if it's the thick-neck or not..

Considering the apalling results from Smoltz, Dice-K and Big Papi this year, the Sox have to be pleased with their wild card chances..

No game today, my morning feels so empty..gonna lively up I&I with this:

Nothing like those Maytals harmonies on a sleepy summer day!

The Yankees could make their weekend alot easier if they come out swinging against Penny. You hate to think this way, but the Yankees really only need 1 game here. If they get it off the bat, that could make life very difficult for Boston.

Mets released Livan...someone will write a book about the 2009 Mets one day..

Watched Verlander pitch against the M's yesterday..he lost the game but man do his pitches have some life to them..I forget who said it but I don't want the Yanks to face him twice in a 7-game series at all, I think he's nastier than Beckett at this point..

The Yankees have something to prove until they win #27. With regard to this series, I agree with [2], win a game.

Speaking of the Mets, Sheffield reportedly was offended that the Mets wouldn't extend his contract. There are few players who I dislike more than him.

[4] At this point teams should know what to expect with Sheff..great player but what a pain in the tuchus..

WOW, Plaxico Buress gets two years! Wasn't there some NFL guy who served one month for killing someone with his car??

I've noticed a bit of swagger coming back to the BoSox, their bats are awake, papi, bay, even drew, hitting well ~ think tito has figured out that vagitek is no longer an everyday mlb catcher, so they can make some stronger lineups.

bottom line, hope the yanks packed their hittin shoes, coz I think they're need them in this series. Think we can and should take the 1st two, and let the big man go sunday night for the kill shot.

[3] Verlander's the nastiest AL starter I've seen this year.

[6] Yes, have noticed that..and if they sweep this weekend they'll only be 3.5 back with a month to play..it ain't close to over..

Let's hope Joba follows the Verlander path and starts dominating like that!

Next season? That's what I expect.

[6] After losing three of four the Sox swept the hopeless, hapless Blue Jays. Let's not mistake "beating the Blue Jays" with "swagger."

[9] I dunno if the Sox are swaggering into the series, but let's not dismiss their momentum. Ortiz is heating up, and they smacked Halladay around.

Couple two cents of nothing:

I feel good about Pettitte, and the rest of our guys under Fenway's Friday night lights, and don't fear Penny at all.

Tomorrow is the only game the Yanks have a clear pitching advantage. Hopefully Burnett can keep the game grounded in reality, and it won't be one of those suspended-realilty bizarro Saturday afternoon Fox pigfux. Watch out for a BoSox temper tantrum in this one.

CC vs Beckett on Sunday night is the hot fudge, nuts, whipped cream, and cherry on the season. Next stop, October.

Forget 1. We gotta have 2 going into Sunday night. I smell BoSox blood, or is that the filet mignon and red wine I'm having with tomorrow night? I'm feeling supremely carnivorous today. The only thing keeping my mind off this series is the extreme heat and accompanying sights in Times Square. My goodness.

[10] You said "momentum" just to get me going, didn't you? ; )

To be sure, they are a good team and should not be dismissed lightly. It has been an odd season with both teams sweeping each other in series after series. I think this weekend will be a little more "normal," with a split. My gut tells me the Sox take two out of three...but then, I'm a pessimist.

[3] I'd read it in a minute, books about bad teams are always the most entertaining. Between "The Worst Team Money Could Buy" and Breslin's book, the Mets have already provided us with two classics.

[12] so whatcha sayin? i would say we mean business and go for 2.

andy really has to locate well tonight with the right-handed hitters and if he does i think he'll be fine. then it's just a matter of taking care of thick neck, which i think the yanks will. but that's why they play the games! :}

[3] It will have to have a big warning sticker on it, "not to be read to children"

Sooooo, who are the Yankees playing this weekend? I haven't heard a word about it.
