I am happy.

Probably the first time any of you have seen me say that and actually mean it. :)

2 Shaun P.   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:45 am

And to Marcia Drew, too - all the best!

3 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:45 am

King of the Hill!

A #1

4 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:46 am

Alex, update the side bar...Game 7 is NOT necessary!!

5 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:47 am

[3] From previous thread Q: the media here will go APESHIT over Matsui being MVP! Can't wait to get the sports tabloids tonight!

6 ny2ca2dc   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:47 am

Also a word up to Jim Dean. The BUC was good enough to start in the World Serious. twice. And we won!

7 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:48 am

I'm so glad Matsui got to win one. The only one of the Mussina, Giambi, era to get one. And to be MVP. So classy. I hope he comes back on a two year deal.

8 ny2ca2dc   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:48 am

Also, スコーアトラック !!!!

9 Alex Belth   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:50 am

Yes, word up to Jim Dean and Marcia Drew for sure! And to us. Here's raising a glass to all of you who keep coming back.

10 Shaun P.   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:50 am

[7] [8] Its not relevant to your point, but I understand he's done a lot of animal-based charity work. =)

スコーアトラック !!

11 51cq24   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:50 am

thanks alex, and everyone else. this is amazing!! i wish the parade weren't on friday since i have a test i need to study for on saturday, but i guess i'll just have to stay up late.

i can't believe it's been exactly 8 years since my worst baseball memory. i've been waiting a long time to see mo back on the mound to close out a series for us. i won't say it was worth the wait, since i would have loved a few more championships, but this sure is gratifying. who would have thought that 8 years later mariano would be maybe even better than he was then??

12 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:51 am

[6] Jim Dean was never a big Teixeira fan...always argued against signing him. He was wrong in the regular season. Thanks to Arod, CC, Jeter, Matsui, etc...no one cares about whether he would have been right about the post season! So much for the curse of Mark Teixeira!!

13 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:53 am

yes, we LOVE Todd Drew!!!!

i thought of Marcia Drew today. i wonder if she watched the game from their YS seats!

[1] in general, i'm a happy person, but i've had an incredibly rough few years. tonight, i can honestly say that my heart and i are truly happy. the Yankees mean that much to me.

this RULES!!!!!!!!! : )

14 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:53 am

If Hughes doesn't think he contributed to this team, he is nuts! I wish he could have had a bigger role in October, but he really helped turn around the bullpen. Don't forget that Phil!

15 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:54 am

[13] They mean that much to all of us, which is what makes this place unique and most of us bordeline crazy!!!

16 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:54 am

[12] After watching his defense this season, he would have come around.

I hope he and my grandfather who saw the previous 26, but fell 8 months short of this one are bantering it up tonight ;-)

17 Shaun P.   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:54 am

[12] The glove was worth it, though! And I bet that might have won Jim over.

[10] And thank you Alex for leaving the lights on for us, through it all! Bottoms up!

18 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:54 am

[9] thanks for having us, Alex!

not sure if you saw it at the end of the last thread...but, i hope you'll come hang out with Ed & me in NYC Turkey Day weekend!!! when we solidify plans, i'm sure he'll let you know. will be a great hang!!!!

19 Shaun P.   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:56 am

[16] Well Bob, by Banter rules, I believe I owe you a rootbeer!

Gosh this is something. I wish they'd go back to the clubhouse already!!

20 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:56 am

And word to muther-effing Brian Cashman, ninja assasin. Cash money, every move you made this year was genius. Marte baby! Swisher! J-Hair!

21 mehmattski   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:56 am

Isolated from very many Yankees fans in Durham, NC, you guys are the best bar full of Yankees fans I could ever think of celebrating with!

This feels so awesome!

These little town blues.... are melting away....

22 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:56 am

[16] whoa, same *exact* situation with my grandpa. next week will be 8 months. i can't believe it. when my mom told me it was 7 months a few weeks back, i lost my shit. i couldn't believe. i still don't believe he's gone.

when i go to NY in a few weeks, this will be my first Turkey Day and first birthday w/out him. ain't gonna be easy...

23 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:57 am

[19] Thanks man! Drinking Michter's right now, but I'll take that rootbeer too :-)

24 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:58 am

[21] ditto from Atlanta!!!

i still have a few old college roommates who live in Raleigh...

25 Shaun P.   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:59 am

[23] Yeah, where's Cashmoney! I hope he is drenched through to the skin with champaigne! He's earned it and then some!

26 Alex Belth   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:59 am

When is the Parade? Friday?

27 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:59 am

[15] i know. this place RULES and so do all of you!!!

28 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:59 am

[26] yeah, that's what they said.

29 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 1:59 am

[22] I know exactly what he would be saying tonight. I miss him so much. He was 12 years old for the first WS win. He predicted they'd win it this year. Thelarmis, I hope they are enjoying it tonight with the other ghosts ;-)

30 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:00 am

I love how every player is lauding the orgainzation for putting this team together (i.e., spending the money). Let the haters wring their hands...I celebrate the Yankees passion to win and love it that the players do too.

31 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:00 am

well, i did call Yanks in 6 for the LCS & WS!!! : )

32 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:00 am

Ok, now that the deal is sealed and I see Mo doused in champagne, I can tell you all that I had a dream last night that we won.

The focal point of the dream was Mariano flashing that gorgeous smile, mobbed by his teammates between the mound and the plate.

33 51cq24   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:02 am

is mariano the most likable athlete of all time??

34 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:02 am

[33] No....I LOVE him.

35 Shaun P.   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:03 am

[32] Living the dream, weeping - we're all living it now!

Five more years Mo - and then another five please!

36 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:03 am

[29] : )

37 Shaun P.   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:04 am

[33] [34] Woe to any Hall of Fame voter who does not vote for him on the first ballot!

God bless that man - God bless him.

38 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:04 am

my mom is gonna save ALL the WS newspaper stuff in NY for me. i can't wait to consume it all at Thanksgiving. hell, i might use it as a blanket! ; )

39 51cq24   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:04 am

well it's tough for anyone to follow mo, but randy levine? seriously??

40 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:05 am

[25] yeah, where IS Ca$h?!?!

Tex Rox. i hope he gets more rings with us!!!

41 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:06 am

i only get to see whatever ESPN is showing. that's it...

42 Bruce S. Markusen   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:06 am

Fabulous feeling here in Cooperstown, too!

I've been around since '65, so this is the seventh world championship of my lifetime. It is as satisfying as any of them. Perhaps not as thrilling as either '77 or '96, but every bit as satisfying!

Have a great night, everyone! I don't drink, so have one for me.

43 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:06 am

Having to play two game sixes probably added $10-15mn to the Yankees' coffers. I wonder what they plan to do with that!??!

44 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:06 am

[40] He's signing Aroldis Chapman right now ;-)

45 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:08 am

[44] Hmmmm....sounds like a good use for [43].

46 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:10 am

[43] see [44] :)

47 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:10 am

Derek Jeter his .407 in this World Series!!!!! That such an accomplishment goes unnoticed is exactly why Derek Jeter is as great as he is.

48 Evil Empire   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:11 am

Alex, thanks to you and Cliff and Bruce and Diane and Will and Emma for all that y'all do to make the Banter the best Yankees home on the internetS.

Cheers! The Yanks are champs. The "Papi jersey" curse was broken inside a year.

49 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:12 am

whoa - nomaas has a completely new design. me no likey. then again, i'm just not very good with change. i'm sure i'll get used to it, at some point...

50 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:12 am

[48] John Henry's TCOMT didn't even last a season either!

51 Shaun P.   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:15 am

Well friends - good night! This is something I don't think any of us will ever forget.

See you all in the morning!

52 Evil Empire   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:15 am

I asked the question in game four -- but I'll answer it for myself. I'm NOW very thankful that the Phillies beat the Yankees in game five because winning the series in the New Stadium is much much much much more satisfying than winning it on the road...See the team run around the field (in the background because Fox doesn't know how to cover baseball) was absolutely great and echoed back to the closing of the Stadium last year. What a fantastic bridge from the past to the future.

BTW, the only thing I liked about Fox's coverage was in the middle of the game when they showed the old stadium in darkness. Otherwise, I wish MLB would rethink the contract when renewal time comes around.

53 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:16 am

[42] i'm about to pour one on ya, bruce!

54 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:16 am

[51] afternoon! : )

55 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:17 am

[52] And, it made the Yankees an extra $8-10mn to spend!

MLB definitely needs a new partner. With the game at its most tense moments, we were being told things like Scott Eyre was excited by a chocolate covered Twinkie or Brett Meyers is a great bowler.

56 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:18 am

[54] You and me buddy, we'll hold down the fort awhile while the other sleep (pass out). T-minus 2 hours and counting..Guinness and maybe a few free vodka shots from Rob the bartender round the corner..

57 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:19 am

I know Mets fans probably wont appreciate it, but the Yankees did a good job making the two Phillies who antagonized their team the most look bad. Rolllins prediction was proven to be hot air, and Cole Hamels completely destroyed his reputation. I am sure Mets fans probably wanted the Phillies to win anyway, but that's not a bad consolation prize.

58 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:19 am

[55] Maybe MLB network? Very cool the Yankees won it the first year of MLB network as well as NYS.

CC I hope you hang around for the rest of your contract . 1.98 ERA... awesome.

59 monkeypants   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:20 am

[55] Or that the Cowboys have a good running game (or whatever NFL related BS they sport during the baseball game).

60 JeremyM   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:22 am

I think Mets fans have all jumped off of Derek Jeter Bridge.

By the way, is Mariano standing on the other side of that bridge? Or is that the Chamberlain-Marte Bridge?

61 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:22 am

[52] you're right. seeing damon flex his muscles, bend down and point to the bleacher creatures and andy running around, grinning ear to ear, slapping hands w/ the fans.

nice shot of jetes hugging his dad just now on espn.

thankfully, chutley is covering his "hot mess of shit on his head" (h/t ms. october), with a hat, for his interview.

62 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:23 am

[57] a student/buddy of mine, is a Muts fan and he and his lady were both rooting for the Yanks!

63 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:23 am

[47] Indeed.

64 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:25 am

Can't wait to watch all the celebrations..I guess on mlb.com archive + YES.com I should be able to get most of it?

Matsui coverage starting already from what I hear!

65 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:28 am

Mo is injured. his side is killing him. hopefully, he'll rest up and be fine for #28, next October!!!

66 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:29 am

OMG, there is an absolutely HYSTERICAL comment over at NoMaas in the Matsui post..you got to check it out!

67 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:29 am

berman just said "maybe" the greatest closer of all time.

really?

MAYBE???

fuck you.

GREATEST. EVER. EVER. EVER.

Long Live MO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

68 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:30 am

[66] the one about him speaking English well?

69 joejoejoe   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:30 am

Great picture of Jeter and Matsui giving each other a goofy "Yes we are badasses, why are people suprised?" look.

70 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:30 am

[66] btw, i am HATING the new design over there...

71 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:31 am

Shout out to Cervelli, Pena, Coke, Phil, Joba, Gardner and all the other new guys too.

72 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:32 am

[68] Yes, posted by "Peter North". He saw Matsui at the "Hentai Fetsival". "Hentai" in Japanese means "Sexual Pervert". And am sure you know who Peter North is!

73 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:33 am

So, do the players vote Selena Roberts a share? Maybe it will help her make up for the lackluster book sales?

74 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:33 am

[71] DRob, can't forget him!!! ;-)

75 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:34 am

[56] i counted for you today - if my calculations were correct, i've added 108 Blue Note cd's in the last 6 months, and that's with a pretty big lull in there for half that time. it's prolly like 400 over the last 13 months...

i'm about to add 15-20 and that it for the year and possibly then some...

i still have a wish list. as i scratch titles off, i find new ones to seek out. either way, i've got a ways to go, but i've got a nice BN collection! : )

76 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:36 am

[73] Give Selena's share to Dr. Marc Phillipon

77 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:37 am

it was sooo many hours ago, but it's kinda kool that we beat Pedro to win the World Serious in da Bronx!!!!

hey OK Tokyo - did you see that bullshit Neyer wrote about Jeter getting hurt by Huckaby and people actually cheering that? really pissed me off. that was just uncalled for. i might stop reading him 'coz of that. if it was Dusty McFuckface, he NEVER woulda written something like that. asshole. i used to like that guy. fuck 'im.

78 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:38 am

Winfield just called Mariano "pedro". ugh.

i love Winny, but he's really *terrible* on BBTN. they only hired him 'coz of MLBN, but it was a bad hire. i wish Kruk only weighed 300 lbs - maybe he, too, could date an espn intern and get FIRED!!!

79 felix holt   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:39 am

Amazing night. I'm so happy I don't really know what to write here!

80 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:39 am

"Every time I see the replay, I think I'm kind of crazy."--Damon on the double steal.

Hah ah hah ah aha a ha !!!

My favorite baseball stoner!

81 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:40 am

Joba to Johnny... "I love YOu". Hysterical.

82 51cq24   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:41 am

is anyone watching this damon interview?? it's incredible. at one point joba comes over and whispers "i love you" then empties a tall boy down his back.

83 monkeypants   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:41 am

[77] Yeah that was in pretty poor taste, and historically inaccurate to boot. Jeter made it to the base, then Huckaby slammed into him, drove him off the base, injured him, then tagged him. Was a bull shit play then, and it still is. And a bit of bull shit from Neyer in this case, too.

84 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:41 am

[82] Loved that.

85 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:42 am

[72] uh...he's not on my blue note roster. is he??? here i go proving how dumb i am... : ~

damn kim jones looks good covered in champagne!

my pinstriped heroes = WORLD CHAMPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

86 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:42 am

has any pitcher done what Andy's done?

clinched Division, LDS, LCS, WS in the same season?!?!?!

highly impressive!!!

87 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:43 am

[86] Lowe did it in 2004, I believe.

88 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:43 am

[86] Yeah, word to Andy and his beak over the glove.

If Andy was around in 2004, there would have been no collapse.

Bring him back one more year Cash!

89 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:43 am

[87] Or was it Lester in 2007, or both?

90 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:45 am

[88] Roger would have helped too. In retrospect, that was a bad mistake, but thanfully it only took 6 years to recover.

91 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:45 am

[82] that sounds awesome! is it on YES? do you think they'll have it on the website tomorrow?!?! hope so!!!

[83] i'm glad you saw that and were as pissed as i was. i was gonna copy/paste earlier today for Mr. OK Jazz Tokyo, but i was rushing around too much today...

92 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:46 am

[90] I'm glad Roger had nothing to do with this one ;-)

93 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:47 am

william - you may be right about lowe and/or lester. i'm not sure...

bobtaco - i think andy will be back for a 1-yr deal, but i don't think it'll be a low base salary + incentives. i think it'll be, at least a guaranteed $10 mil + a few incentives. i don't think it'll be like the other year, where it could reach $16 mil, but maybe $12.5 mil, tops, or something....

94 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:49 am

[93] Andy deserves it.

I hope Wang gets a deal too. I feel bad for him that he didn't get a chance to pitch in a WS.

95 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:51 am

when i move into this house sometime next month, i might try to tap a toe into the 21st century. not sure what i'm gonna do, but it's possible i discard of my landline, upgrade from dsl to whatever is faster (cable modem?), basic cable to something that has to do with tivo/dvr (whatever that is), etc.

i'm in atlanta - what would i have to do to get YES and/or MLB network? could they be on the same plan? my brother mentioned direct tv. i'm not sure what that is, but i was told it needs a satellite and i don't know if i can do that. can i get it via a different package? i have a month or more to research...

96 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:52 am

[95] thelarmis, get yourself some DirecTV, plus the Sports package, + the MLB package.

97 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:53 am

[94] i wonder if they feel IPK will be able to take over for the Wanger. wouldn't it be crazy if IPK ends up starting more games than Joba and/or Hughes next season?

i don't know how confident i am in Cokey being the 2nd lefty in the pen next year. it's been mentioned here that we could try to stretch him out - as a starter - in the spring, to increase his trade value. i'm down...

98 matt b   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:54 am

Still smiling, gang! This rules!

99 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:54 am

[95] Everyone vouches for the MLB package.

Yeah, saw that Neyer bit. He's becoming too anti-Yankee. Annoying from one of my fave analysts.

Can't wait to see all the interviews later!

100 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:54 am

[96] is it expensive? i don't need ANY other sport. just baseball, YES, mlb network.

my new landlord said it'd prolly be okay, just that they have to be super careful on the roof...

101 51cq24   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:54 am

it's very strange that i trust andy more now than i ever did when he was in his prime. but boy did he come up big this postseason. there's no reason not to give him whatever he wants for next year. he could have one more year like mussina did last year, or something close to it.

102 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:55 am

[92] I still love the Rocket, but we can put that aside for now!

[93] Lester didn't do it, but Lowe did.

103 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:57 am

espn front page headline reads: 27th And Broadway

kinda kool !!!

WE WON THE FUCKING WORLD SERIOUS!!!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sooooo cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : )

104 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:57 am

[100] DirecTV is about $50/month, MLB package is $149 for the season, sports package is about $20/month for YES.

HDTV is about an extra $10/month

If you have the cash, it's worth it :-)

105 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:57 am

[95] DirectTV will give you MLBN on basic, but YES will only be available if you buy the Sports Package (an extra $10). However, you don't get the games for that price. You still need to buy the $169 MLB Extra Innings package. FiOS also gives you access to both, but the taxes are a killer.

I love the MLB.com package, but it does tie you to the PC.

106 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:58 am

[101] Andy back for 1, absolutely! Now the big Q...JD or Godzilla? Can't sign both for two years..but let's wait a few more days before that discussion.

One hour till Guinness time!!

107 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:59 am

[101] i agree.

[102] thanks for looking that up. that's cool for Lowe. he's also one of - what, 3? - pitchers to record a 20 win & 40 save season. i know both 'stats' are majorly flawed, but still kinda cool. i guess it's him, schmalztie & eck.

lowe got a huge contract from the bravos and didn't do great. they'd love to unload him, but he's not that desirable. looks like vazquez might be on the block and he did VERY well for hotlanta this year. this is a perfect place for him - town and league...

108 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 2:59 am

[106] Give Johnny and Hideki both one guaranteed year + 1 option year.

109 Joel   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:05 am

Just another GREAT chapter in Yankee history. I may not get any sleep tonight! Thank you Alex and Cliff and all you Banterers for a wonderful season and a wonderful blog. You know, the older I get these championships become even more special. (Even though my wife thinks I'm a mental patient.)

And can I just say--Damaso Marte--you were a F***ING beast!!!!! Striking out Chutley and Howard on six pitches, they didn't have a chance. Stay healthy my man because you are a major weapon. Consider your first $4mm earned!

110 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:05 am

[105] yeah, see these are all the things i'll have to weigh. my parents have that FIOS thing. haven't had it for long. i'm really not much of a tv guy and i really don't wanna have too many more distractions than i already do. i really miss having more access to Yankee games, but i NEED to practice. i fear if i had too much baseball at home, it'd keep me away from my instruments. i really can't make more of a sacrifice than i already do.

i'll continue to gather information and do research and weigh all options before i make a decision. i guess i could always go into this new place with the same basic packages i've been dealing with for the last 8 years and i could always switch it up at a later date... right?

i didn't even have a tv until 2001. the only reason i got one, is 'coz i had to be out and about to watch the Yanks win the '00 Serious. of course, my ex-g/f was late to get me and i ended up with a severe ankle injury - damn celebratory leaps! so, we got a little tube for the following year. lotsa good that did me... til NOW!!!!!!!!

i wanna see the Yanks and more baseball, but i need to watch my funds and make sure i still tend to honing my craft.

111 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:06 am

[109] Marte..just a monster!! KEY KEY ABs there and he was just unhittable. Tabata who??

112 Joel   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:07 am

[105] You can get MLB Extra Innings on FiOS?

113 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:07 am

[109] yeah man, they do mean more the older we get!

did you hear Mo call Andy an "old goat"?! that was "teh awesome!"

dude, Marte was great throughout, not even just tonight. and he got righties out, also! made GI Joe's decision to go to Cokey in Game 5 even worse. it's not like Damaso threw a lot of pitches the night before. ah, it's all "mute" now... : )

114 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:09 am

[110] If baseball is your main concern, I would just get MLB.com and invest in some tech to get it on your TV.

[112] Yes.

By the way, it's no longer just the Yankees....you may now address them as the World Champion Yankees.

115 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:10 am

[110] I wish I could get FiOS where I am...

116 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:10 am

[104] thanks! i doubt i'd have an HDTV. i have a 13" Sanyo tv/vcr special from Costco! : )

$50/mo i can handle. $20/mo for YES, is worth. i prolly couldn't go beyond that. is the MLB package just for the 6 months of the season, or is it $149 for the year?

all of this stuff is too much for me, but really - i've been waiting for tonight for NINE FUCKING YEARS and i'm watching/listening to john fucking kruk right now. that just...SUCKS!!! : /

117 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:12 am

[116] $149 is for just April to October, and they break it up per month...

118 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:12 am

[116] Man, you are often out at night at a gig or practicing..then you need to get either Tivo ( I am told it records the games for you) or the MLB.com that I have..it's for the year and you can wtach games anytime.

119 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:14 am

[114] yes, baseball is my ONLY concern, as far as tv is concerned. i can get mlb.com on my TV?!?!?! really?!?!?! um...HOW?!

my dad was mentioning something about verizon having yankee games online. he has fios at home. he wants to buy it for me next season. but, i have a really slow laptop that freezes w/ video and stuff and i'm afraid it would overheat it and i couldn't watch the games and follow the banter. are you saying i can get the computer feeds from mlb.com on my tv?!?!?!

[sorry for my complete and utter stupidity about modern technology. i'm nothing but an acoustic musician!!!]

120 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:15 am

[118] You also get the audio package and the Baseball's Best archive for free. As long as you have a good internet connection and good monitor, the MLB.com package is really a great buy.

121 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:16 am

[119] I'm a freak... I get both mlb.tv and DirecTV + mlb package

122 Raf   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:17 am

If Andy was around in 2004, there would have been no collapse.

I dunno about that, he blew out his elbow in 04

123 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:18 am

[119] If you get a TV with the right capability, you can do it. It requires an investment, but it's a one time cost. I watch it on my my monitor (21"), and I still think it is worth it, but you do need a laptop that can handle it.

124 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:19 am

[122] Fallacy of the pre-determined outcome [/Kay]

125 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:20 am

[121] Me too...but then again, I bon't spend much on other forms of entertainment.

126 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:21 am

[120] Right, you guys can watch on mlb.com live games..I can't do that here!

45mins till Guinness time! I want to join the celebrations!!! The photos are awesome on the web now, and my dad just emailed me to say he and my mom are going to the parade on Friday. Wish I was there too!

127 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:21 am

[117] ooh, that sounds good!

[118] you're right about that, too! my brother was saying i should get some kind of package on my phone. i have a razor right now and i LOVES it. i'm guessing eventually, i'll get one of those iphone dealy-o's and when i do, i'd make it where i have access to baseball scores.

cliff mentioned the other day i should get that tivo/dvr thing, or something. i'm still not sure what it is. yeah, it does record it for you. my brother's got it.

i'm sure i'll get it all together, at some point, but i'm slow, and it's gonna take me a minute. i haven't moved in a freaking DECADE, so there's lots and lots to get happening.

i think my parents are gonna drive down from NY and my pop's gonna build me some new cd cases for my massive BN collection! they're also gonna buy me a couch and washer/dryer as house warming gifts! : )

128 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:25 am

Hey jensc, if you are out there, Welcome to the Banter! Great day to stop by, the Yankees are WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS!

[127] thelarmis..good luck moving..my first years here I moved pretty much every year, was way stressful. by the way,

2009 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS, THE NEW YORK YANKEES!!

129 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:26 am

[126] you won't happen to be in NY for Turkey Day, will you?!

william - you live in NY?

[123] the guitar player that i co-lead the jazz trio with, works at an audio/visual place. he just took home a great tv for cheap and could prolly get me a deal on something. am i understanding this correctly - i could get some mlb.com footage that is viewed on my tv screen and my laptop would be free to banter (and check email...and play solitaire...and keep a work schedule...and look at pictures of hot blondes)?!?!?!

130 Boatzilla   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:28 am

[106] GODZILLA! Had to say that. Good plan, but I actually think that there's less room for Johnny. I'd like to see both Melky (LF) and Gardner in the line-up most everyday.

131 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:30 am

[129] Yes...in Brooklyn.

132 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:30 am

[130] Boatzilla!! Fancy a tipple or two this evening to celebrate?? Get in touch with me via email if you are free! WE WON!!! Can you IMAGINE the tv here tonight?? We'll see Matsui's homer 68kajillion times..and I will watch it every time!!

133 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:32 am

[128] i lived in 3 places here the first 3 years in atlanta and then 10 straight in this pad. that said, most of those 3 years were spent in one house, and most of that time, i was on the road, touring.

btw, i got the rest of my McCoy late BN years cd's today, so i have all 5 in the collection. there was one w/ Jackie McLean, early on (like 1985), when the label first resurfaced. then, there were 3 others before the duo album w/ Hutch. 2 were complete solo piano records and the remaining session was mostly solo, with a handful of duets (3 w/ guitar, 2 w/ sax).

so, i have 5 early Tyner BN cd's (late 60's/early 70's) and his 5 for the label later on. i believe there might be a coupla more from the 70's, but they may be vinyl only...so i don't have em. : (

134 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:35 am

[130] dude - Melky AND Gritner in the same lineup EVERY DAY?!?! what the hell is in the sake over there?!?!?! NOOOOOOO!!!! did you see brett tonight? in the field AND at the plate. he's fast, we get that. he hustles, that's cool. but, he CAN'T HIT THE BASEBALL. hell, he couldn't field it tonight, either - playing waaay too shallow on Feliz in the 8th. yeah, he made a nice catch the other day, but whatever.

melky and brett are different players, but they reap similar results. one is enough, definitely DON'T need both in the same field and lineup for a season. no No NO! at this point, i'd rather just keep Leche around and see...

135 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:36 am

[133] Treat yourself to the missing albums. But NOT before ordering a new 2009 WS Champions t-shirt, hat, socks, scarf and DVD set. (Can't wait to see my wife's face when I get those in the mail at Xmas time..)

136 NYYfan22   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:36 am

Bobtaco & thelarmis -- same for my PopPop. He passed away this past February. He loved the Yanks, as did my Nanny, who passed away in 2002.

Alex & Co -- thanks so much for the banter. It's such a great site-possibly the only site I traverse that's bookmarkworthy. Thank you thank you thank you.

Can't wait to tell my boy in the morning. He's going to be ecstatic! (he's been writing down lineups all week)

137 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:37 am

[131] oh, cool! my mom's from brooklyn, originally...

would be cool if you can come into the Shitty and meet up with a couple of us, for drinks, food, baseball banter and music speak (mostly jazz!), if you're around the weekend after Turkey Day!

138 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:39 am

[137] man, if you get an iMac you can watch the games, play solitaie, do your schedule AND look at pictures of hot Japanese women..er, hot blondes ALL at the same time!!

20mins till beer o' clock!! I bet Swisher and Joba are still downing beers in the clubhouse!!

139 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:42 am

watching Mariano Rivera jog in from the bullpen is my absolute favorite image in sports history.

i also love watching derek jeter's fist pumps and, esp. his reactions winning FIVE World Championships!!!!

it's really nice to see A-Rod smile a genuine, uninhibited smile. ya know, i understand it. i live my life really privately, holed up in a practice room or this 1-bedroom apt in front of this laptop, with a wall mirror (part of the unit, not A-Rod "centaur-like"!!!) and the only times i ever smile so freely, widely and happily, is when the Yankees win. good on him, good on the Yanks, good on NY, and good on...US!!!!

WE ARE WORLD CHAMPS!!!!

140 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:43 am

[137]I may actually be in Peru over Thanksgiving, but keep me updated on the details. I'll be here throughout the off season!

141 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:44 am

Just saw Ca$h get the champagne bath with Melky on MLB Network :-D

142 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:45 am

Yankees open up against Boston in 2010...nice way to for the World Champs to begin their title defense!

143 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:46 am

[140] Nice WNYY23, my girlfriend is from Chile, have a great time down there. I actually ran way to Easter Island in 2004 to avoid the Redsox winning it all.

144 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:48 am

[135] i'm doing it! i need to get in touch w/ you off here, sometime soon. i've been in touch w/ some pretty cool folks over this past year, or so, collecting like a madman. hell, i've actually gotten some original Japanese promos DIRECTLY from michael cuscuna's collection! : )

i've been learning a lot about the label and discography. now's the time, as it's all about to go completely under. no more more rvg's, no more reissues, no more in print, no more...nothing. as far as the "missing" albums though, i don't collect vinyl and am not too very interested in it. that said, there is definitely a sizable amount of classic artists that have 'special' albums that have never been released on CD. eventually, i'll just get them...

[138] neh, just sticking with the low-end, cheap-o, Dell laptop. i've had 2 now and they've done right by me...

i didn't realize i've had so many, but i'm halfway thru beer #5! got 4 more in the fridge. i won't get thru 'em all, but i ain't done yet! : )

special night tonight! i wouldn't wanna be anywhere else, but here at the BRONX BANTER!!!

145 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:50 am

[136] i LOVE how you called him "PopPop". i fully understand the hole in your soul. it'll never heal...

how old is your boy?

was your rehearsal on upright?

you should come join us at the pub for food/ale Turkey Day weekend, if you can get away from the fam for a few hours!

146 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:51 am

[144] Awesome collection..PLEASE be careful when moving house!

I can taste that first Guinness now..funny, but my Red Sox loving pal here in town is not answering his phone to come drinking tonight..in-grown toenail paerhaps? Lupus? Locust invasion outside his house? Am sure there is some worthy excise for not joining me..

147 Bobtaco   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:54 am

Eff the haters. Good night guys. Hot Stove next week :-D

148 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:55 am

[140] holy crap! that's cool. sounds like you get to travel to some cool places for work! i used to, but to be honest with you, i really don't love touring. maybe if i was getting to play jazz or doing advanced drums/percussion clinics/masterclasses, but otherwise, i'd rather sleep in my own bed and play/teach in town...

my new landlord is from Brazil and is there quite often. i study a lot of brazilian, afro-cuban, latin drumming...

definitely will keep you apprised of the goings on. it'll either be the Friday, or - more likely - Saturday after Turkey, in the Shitty, for several hours in the evening/night.

always a treat to go out in NYC with the smoking ban! : ) i wish they'd blanket that all over Georgia, already. soooo much hedging about it. total bollocks...

[142] is it in the Bronx or Boston? i'd LOVE for them to have to watch the ceremony and us get rings? didn't we have to do that the other year? : /

149 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:55 am

[143] I went to there for the first time last year and had a great time...think it will be a yearly destination. I brought everyone Yankee shirts. Her whole family went sight seeing with us and we got into a few places for free because they thought we were a camp. I can just imagine a New Yorker on vacation thinking, damn the Yankees are popular here.

150 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:56 am

[147] do you read mlb trade rumors? i actually love that site and pretty much read every single entry there, every day of the year...

151 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:57 am

[148] This is pleasure....My fiancee is Peruvian.

It's in Boston, so no rings. Still, it's nice to kick of the defense of the Empire in Boston. In 2005, they opened up at the Stadium against RJ, and waited to give out the rings until the Yankees were in town.

152 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:58 am

packing up for the first round of pints now,

2009 World Series Champions, The New York Yankees!!!

153 williamnyy23   ~  Nov 5, 2009 3:58 am

Time to get my hour of sleep before I have to get up...see everyone tomorrow....Day 1 of the Reign!

154 NYYfan22   ~  Nov 5, 2009 4:01 am

[145] yeah, on the upright. After the rehearsal, we slid over to a bar on Flatbush Ave in Brooklyn to watch the end of the game. Man, that place was jumpin!

After the victory, I hit the road to come home. Walking to my car, there were people honking and screaming about the Series in the street. It was awesome! Then, driving over the Manhattan Bridge, I saw the Empire State Building was lit in beautiful blue & white. haha!

My son is 5-1/2 and my daughter just turned 4. The postseason has been tough, cause 8pm is normal bedtime. They've sneaked in a few innings here and there. My son cracks me up.. He has his glove on ALL DAY.

And lastly, we'll be out of state at my sister's house T-day weekend. But if for some reason I'm around I'd love to.

155 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 4:01 am

[146] i think the BN collection will be last to make the move! it'll be with me the entire time! i should forward it to you soon. let me make this one last order and then i'll get it to ya. my pop has to make me a coupla more cd cabinets to house 'em all!

i LOVE josh wilker's (Cardboard Gods) saying of "ingrown SOULnail". brilliant!

[149] did you notice a goodly amount of Yankees gear during your time in London? i toured all throughout the UK and dated an English girl. TONS of Yankee gear. i guess part of it is just the New York thing and part is Boss George being part owner of a "soccer" team...and a small part, actually being the YANKEES!

crap - a sneezing attack. i've either turned into my mother or i'm nearing the end of my drinking capabilities for the night... : ~

156 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 4:05 am

[154] thanks for painting an NYC picture for my photographic mind. sometimes it's hard to be a thousand miles from home...

i'll find out tomorrow if my nephews - 8 & 11 - got to stay up to watch. my niece, who's 5, won the "student of the month" award today in Queens! : )

157 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 4:08 am

that picture of the team, receiving the trophy, and raising their hands all at once... beautiful. i want that framed in my new home!!!

158 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 4:09 am

uh-oh, this is the time of night when i start talking to myself here!

Chyll's Crickets!!! ; )

159 NYYfan22   ~  Nov 5, 2009 4:16 am

holy chit. Lookit this pic on the front of yesnetwork.com -- Swisher looks exactly like Mike Stanton did on the field in 98. ...now I'll have to hunt that down.

160 NYYfan22   ~  Nov 5, 2009 4:18 am

...okay, maybe there's not spit images. But you be the judge.

09 vs 98

161 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 4:37 am

best. news. ever. via chad jennings and lohud:

Meanwhile, you might have heard on television that Mariano Rivera said he feels like he could pitch for another five years. Turns out, he wasn’t joking.

“I’m serious,” he said. “I hope the organization does whatever it takes to bring me back.”

162 thelarmis   ~  Nov 5, 2009 4:39 am

oh, and the word press clock here at the banter does NOT change automatically for Daylight Savings. i'm guessing there's a function that makes that happen easily. i'm just glad it's not an hour later. this boy needs some serious SLEEP!!!

i get to hit the pillow as a WORLD CHAMPION tonight!!!

wow.

The entire Banter staff should take exceptional pride in their share of the 27th World Championship. No overstatement: As the center of NYY Universe, Banter is uniquely entitled to a 'karmic playoff share' in this modern age of immediate & intimate sports reporting. In the same vein, Marcia Drew please know that many people, all over the world, think about your husband every day by virtue of his great talent being 'broadcast' over the very live wire(s) of NYY fans computers. His sites/columns and his later affiliation with Banter were the comiserating friend of all cyberspace Yankee fans. Todd's inclusion in 2009's Best Sportswriting is well deserved. As various players acknowledged the NYY fans tonite, I thought how Todd Drew really represents the NYY Universe, at its best, and how much he must have enjoyed this season even if he didn't get to see it from his season seats like he'd planned.

166 LAJ   ~  Nov 5, 2009 6:17 am

[153] 1st Day of the Reign! Great! That reminds me (& forgive me if I'm not the first to do this): TWO Thousand SEVEN!! Clap/Clap/Clap/Clap/Clap TWO Thousand SEVEN!! Clap/Clap/Clap/Clap/Clap

167 Scott Thomas   ~  Nov 5, 2009 9:40 am

To my nephew, Todd...wish you were with Masha last night. She told me the place was rocking.

To my sister, Linda...give Todd a hug for me.

To my Aunt Joyce (who died of cancer in 2007 and a big Yankee fan)...party on!

I miss you all!

Go Yanks!! Here's to your 27th World Championship. I guess Joe Girardi will be changing his number next season. :-)
