So Wang, It’s Been Good To Know Ya

wang

It appears as if Chien-Ming Wang’s Yankee career is over. Man, it just goes to show how fragile a career can be–a few years ago, Wang was the ace of the staff. Now, who knows what will become of him?

If he’s a goner, here’s wishing him the best of luck. He was an easy guy to root for.

He'll be pitching somewhere in 2010. And I think pretty decently too.

[2] color me dubious. However, I would like to see the Yanks get him signed for a minor league deal.

Your article is a bit sketchy on details. The Yankees non-tendered Wang based on their "floor" limitation of $4M. This is not to say that they cannot sign him to a $1.5M+ minor league deal without using a spot on the 40 man roster while he rehabs. Whoever takes him probably will not have a real major league starting pitcher before the All-Star Game. A lot of teams will be very wary of how he pitched in the first few weeks of 2009 - that was before he injured his arm.

[3] Yep. The real question on Wang, of course, is whether he was hurt when he was pitching in 09? Or did he just lose the magic?

As you say Alex, an easy guy to root for. It would be nice to see him get a minor league deal with the Yanks. Maybe he could take up some of the innings the restricted Hughes cannot pitch in the second half.

ah, i'll miss Tiger. he was indeed an easy guy to root for. though i hope he stops smoking! i have a few of his Yankees baseball cards and will always dig them. i hope he pitches ... somewhere - and well - again.

pitchers, simply, should NOT hit (and run the bases)!!!!!!!!!!

and duncan (not duncanstein) is a Brave minor leaguer. always good for a guy named Eric to be in Atlanta...

[5] Ha!

I'm not giving up on the notion they sign him to a minor league deal and let him rehab; even in this state he's got to be better than Igawa. He certainly has the track record. I just don't see many, if any team being able to afford him that kind of time except the Yanks (and Mets, if they were smart which they are notsomuch...)

I don't know why another team would want to roll the dice any more than the Yanks. It's a tough call as an observer - I really don't know what the deal with his injuries is. All I know is that before he was injured he was an excellent pitcher. If there's a decent chance he can get back to that, the Yankees really should try to hold on to him, in the appropriate capacity.

[7] Well, apparently Sergio Mitre was offered a contract (or rather, arbitration). When you have Sergio Mitre on your roster, you don't need to worry about taking chances on guys like Wang.

[8] Damn that is strange.
