I keep repressing the urge to grab a standby flight and, I dunno, stand on the subway platform and just be there. This feels like missing a funeral.
If this had happened 25 years ago, I -- with fewer responsibilities and even less perspective -- would probably have been there chained to something.
"chained to something" - damn, if only I'd thought of that a year ago . . .
