"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

Jabulani!

Hard to imagine that the biggest tournament in the world would introduce a new ball, but that’s what they’ve always done.

USA vs England at 2:30. Hope the boys bring it today, England will be looking to deconstruct the States back into to colonies.

Looks like the partying has already started in S.A.

And England is on the board...

Oh, hi.
Not much of a party here at Casa Copa Bronx Banter, huh?

No, we don't know from this "football" thing...

Thing I notice is how the lights on the field create four sticks of shadows around each player so that they look like they are standing in the middle of an "X." Kind of neat visual.

[5] Hey yeah, it looks like Playstation.
I like that South Africa World Cup color. I don't know what to call it. Electrified Kalahari Red, maybe? The shoes, a lot of the stadium ads feature it.

Oh. My. God.

My son is a goalie, so I empathize with Green. (Or maybe with his dad!)

Woo hoo!

10 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:15 pm

WOW!

11 RIYank   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:18 pm

That was a beautiful off-side trap there, that the US just executed. Did you see the striker? He was shocked. "Me?"

12 RIYank   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:40 pm

Whew! Great sweep.
Oh, he was off side anyway.

13 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:44 pm

They are at 55 minutes...how long does it go again, 90?

14 rbj   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:49 pm

[13] Yup, 90. Plus extra time for stoppages like injuries. And the only one who knows how much time that is is the ref, IIRC. There isn't a big clock for that.

15 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:51 pm

Right, right, thanks.

16 rbj   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:53 pm

Damn.

17 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:53 pm

SHot on goal...OOOOOH, that was close

18 RIYank   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:55 pm

Damn, our strikers are fast. That didn't show up so much in the first half.

[14] That is the only completely stupid feature of soccer. Why they don't just stop the freaking clock, I'll never know.

Way overhead

20 rbj   ~  Jun 12, 2010 4:03 pm

Phew!

21 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 12, 2010 4:04 pm

Jesus, tense much?

22 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 12, 2010 4:18 pm

This stupid game is too tense. I don't know how people can watch it. Maddening.

23 RIYank   ~  Jun 12, 2010 4:20 pm

[22] This is a very intense one!

24 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 12, 2010 4:24 pm

I dunno...games that end in a tie...positively un-Ammuricun!

25 rbj   ~  Jun 12, 2010 4:25 pm

I guess it's alright. But still, ties are. . . not all that inspiring.

College football is unAmerican?

Very good match for the US. Yes, they were lucky to get that goal, but they attacked well and defended well, and Tim Howard was superb.

YAYYYYY! There is NOTHING finer than watching the whole country of England act like pre-2004 Red Sox fans. Great job stealing a point here, they have a good chance to qualify now.

Decent match for the US. I can't say they really seemed like England's equal, but the result is in the book.

We still have to win the games we're supposed to win ...
