Yanks & World Cup this afternoon, Mud Hens & fireworks tonight. Got most of the gutters cleaned, just have to let the rest drain. Only potential problem is scattered t-storms throughout the day, leading to two scared dogs.

All well.

Miss Sweden Day in the Bx, 8th annual big apple barbecue block party, World Cup soccer, Yankee baseball, and a b-day party tonight... Full day!

Good start for the Yanks and Jetes.

3 RIYank   ~  Jun 12, 2010 1:19 pm

[1] Why the fireworks?
[2] Happy birthday. Miss Sweden Day? I think I won't ask about that.

Auspicious start for us!

4 rbj   ~  Jun 12, 2010 1:22 pm

[3] Fridays, Saturdays & Sunday nights are fireworks nights. Just because.

5 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 12, 2010 1:40 pm

Man, Pence hit a shot, no?

6 rbj   ~  Jun 12, 2010 1:49 pm

[5] Yup

7 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 12, 2010 1:49 pm

Thames allows that run to score (as opposed to being on 3rd).

8 Just Fair   ~  Jun 12, 2010 1:50 pm

Nice play, Thames. You should have let it roll around on the track a little longer. OY!

9 RIYank   ~  Jun 12, 2010 1:50 pm

Javy will be needing some jelp.
No more jomers, please.

10 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 12, 2010 1:55 pm

7) Yeah, but Jeter botched a chance at the play too. The relay throw was good.

Nice job to get out of it though.

11 rbj   ~  Jun 12, 2010 1:58 pm

Yes, now get him home Nick.

12 RIYank   ~  Jun 12, 2010 1:58 pm

Jetes has some fire today.

13 RIYank   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:00 pm

Don't like: having to rely on Swisher and Cano to do all the heavy lifting while Teixeira struggles and A-Rod sits.
Do like: that they're managing to do all that lifting, and with a smile.

14 rbj   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:03 pm

Bases loaded, no outs, feasting time.

15 rbj   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:03 pm

Po-slam!

16 seamus   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:04 pm

hey, that works!

17 seamus   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:04 pm

I've been kind of annoyed with how crappy Po has been. So that was nice to see.

18 RIYank   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:05 pm

Damn, that really was a feast.

Now I can watch the soccer without worrying about the Yankees! (Knock on wood.)

19 seamus   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:08 pm

that didn't mean cervi and grandy had to go down so easily.

20 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:11 pm

Man, that Posada dinger was a Yankee Stadium special. That said, interesting how the homer run rate has leveled out dramatically this year, huh?

21 RIYank   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:13 pm

Good, now Javy's in-game ERA is back down below his season ERA.

22 seamus   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:14 pm

[20] yeah, it's interesting how little folks have discussed that too. But the homer rate does seem to have dipped significantly. Do you think that's due to the removal of old yankee stadium possibly?

23 seamus   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:14 pm

[21] ha, just had the same thought!

24 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:20 pm

9 finger Gardner is still better then Thames. Did Thames hurt himself not making that last play?

25 Just Fair   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:23 pm

[24] He must have tweaked something hustling over to field the ball before it hit the wall. ; )

26 RIYank   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:35 pm

England have scored in the fourth minute.
I suppose anyone interested is also watching...

27 rbj   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:37 pm

That's a no doubter.

[26] WC thread below. I'm double threading.

28 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:37 pm

Well, they don't get cheated when they go yard on Javy. Way to pounce on that dribbler by Pence, though...

29 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:39 pm

22) Uneducated guess is yes, the removal of the old place must have impacted how the wind is coming through the place.

30 RIYank   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:44 pm

Ask Russo to sac here?

31 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:44 pm

[2] miss sweden day??? was that invented to torture me?! : o

let's bring these two walks to runs!

32 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:44 pm

[30] go kick a ball...

33 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:46 pm

i played little league and school baseball w/ 2 different kids named Russo. i guess it's a Long Island kinda name. (kevin's from west babylon. WBAB baby. Homegrown! - my brothers' high school rock band was featured on that radio show, back in the day. cool.)

34 ms october   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:50 pm

ha good time to turn the game on

35 Just Fair   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:50 pm

Do it to it, Captain! Sweet.

36 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:51 pm

oh man. i was gonna write - "when was the last time Jeter had a 2-homer game?!"

i swear!!!

go cap'n!!!

37 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:52 pm

How far is it to the midpoint of the wall/scoreboard in RF?

38 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:52 pm

fulchino's mug shot - and name - make him out to be a boxer, or some kinda fighter.

39 ms october   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:52 pm

[36] we don't believe you, you need more people :}
your nostralarms powers have not been shining lately!

40 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:53 pm

[39] i know! that's why i shoulda typed it.

damnit. : /

41 Just Fair   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:53 pm

Why anyone prefers futbol over Baseball is beyond my imagination. I watch the World Cup and all including today's game and always come away doing my best Homer impression. Boooorrrriiiiinggggg.

42 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:54 pm

i hope javy goes 8 innings. he's only at 74 pitches.

so, was tims lifted due to injury or just suckitude? if injured, i'd imagine miranda would 'rightfully' be called back up...

43 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:56 pm

[41] i agree. i don't get it. i wouldn't spend a split second watching it.

but, i have been enjoying basketball playoffs more the last coupla years. i was looking forward to watching the game tomorrow night, but i picked up a last minute gig and will miss it. go lakers!!!

44 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 12, 2010 2:59 pm

JV is a decent pitcher against really shitty teams. The thought of him in the PS is a bit scary. My guess is he's in the BP in October.

45 RIYank   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:01 pm

[41] [43] It helps if you play it (even badly, like I do).

46 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:01 pm

[44] yeah. if we get there, he'll prolly be in the bully. but that's a long ways off. who knows about injuries and/or possible trades. i really don't seeing us getting a lee or oswalt in 6 weeks, but one never knows...

47 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:02 pm

41 and 43) You snotty Americans are all alike. LOL I can't get into soccer either though, but I truly appreciate how many people around town are buzzing about it. That's really cool.

48 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:02 pm

[45] see [32] : )

49 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:03 pm

[46] Nah... mid-season trades/rentals for prime meat usually costs the farm too much. Short of CC or Phil going down, I don't see getting a premiere arm mid season.

50 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:05 pm

Nice pitch, hoss!

51 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:06 pm

christ. the blow jays are still paying bj ryan 10 mil this year.

i needs me a contract like that...

52 Just Fair   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:11 pm

I recently read SI's article about Landon Donovan, US's best player apparently. He came across as a petulant weenie. Plus all the flopping that occurs regularly. Bollocks! I'll stop ranting now.
: )

53 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:12 pm

where'd it hit him?

54 Just Fair   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:13 pm

Nice save, dude. Give me a break.

55 rbj   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:14 pm

Gee I step out for a minute to get a new floodlight bulb and the Yanks add three more and US ties up.

56 RIYank   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:21 pm

Okay, it's halftime, I'm back.

And thanks for your happy words, thelarmis. I will go kick a ball in an hour or two, I promise.

57 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:26 pm

[56] is there an Israeli soccer team that's part of the world cup? if so, are they any good?

58 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:30 pm

Well, tomorrow's matchup looks pretty good for us. With a Win tomorrow, we end up going 12-4 against the Suckitude league, and might be in a tie for 1st. And even after tomorrow, we still have +5 Home games on the schedule.

59 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:34 pm

c'mon DJ, i want double digits!

60 RIYank   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:34 pm

[57] No. I mean, they have a team, but they aren't good. There's an Israeli soccer league that's pretty good, but it relies heavily on Arab players. (There is no ethnic or religious problem whatsoever, as far as I can tell -- the soccer players seem to be peaceniks, and mensches.)

61 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:36 pm

on this day, there'd be no double digits. oh well.

62 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:37 pm

[60] oh, okay. thanks.

63 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:38 pm

from lohud:

Marcus Thames left today’s game with a strained right hamstring. He’s currently undergoing an MRI.

64 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:39 pm

it's go-dan. i guess double digits is still a possibility...

65 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:39 pm

WHAT A GREAT PLAY BY SWISHER!!!!!!!!!

66 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:40 pm

SWISH! Just woke me up from a half-nap on the couch.

67 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:41 pm

shit. wish i could see the swish play. hopefully, i'll catch a replay/highlight.

68 Just Fair   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:42 pm

Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

69 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:42 pm

ballgame over.

go fish!!!

70 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:42 pm

Yay, another win!

Awesome.

71 rbj   ~  Jun 12, 2010 3:45 pm

Good job!

72 thelarmis   ~  Jun 12, 2010 4:02 pm

hey, JoPo catching tomorrow! cool.

this according to GI Joe, via LoHud.

i guess he can catch manana, then rest up monday, see how he feels. if he's okay, he should be able to try back-to-back tues/wed...

73 Diane Firstman   ~  Jun 12, 2010 5:00 pm

[72]

Nooooooo! I'm going to the game tomorrow .... and wearing my "29" jersey for the first time ... I don't want JoPo behind the plate (sob) :-(

74 seamus   ~  Jun 12, 2010 8:19 pm

[73] oh that is a bummer Diane. but still exciting you get to wear it!

75 seamus   ~  Jun 12, 2010 8:47 pm

Florida closing in and making a game of it. 5-3 rays.
