How Not to Win Friends and Influence People

Man, I never knew that Mitch Albom was so unpopular in the press box. I’m not surprised but still… But Mr. Albom took it on the chin last week–from Dave Kindred and Charlie Pierce, Tommy Craggs and even the diplomatic Joe Posnanski. You guys read about this? At the very least it’s an entertaining diversion.

I've been loving this. Albom, like Lupica, was once upon a time a truly great sportswriter. Of course he then decided that this wasn't enough, hence we get a half hour of giant eared (ok that was mean) punditry on that God forsaken "roundtable" once a week on ESPN, a bunch of halfbaked pseudo spiritual nonsense that has kept airport Borders in business for years, once in a while a sports column, and oh yeah...he makes shit up.

The guy is a hack, we know this. But he takes it to the next level of calling out colleagues for, well we're not sure what exactly. Not being Mitch Albom I guess.

Good for Kindred and Pierce for calling BS on this. The man hasn't been a true "sportswriter" for over a decade at this point.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised by all the hoopla when I read Joe Posnanski's blog yesterday. I've never liked Albom, but since he was everywhere I assumed he was well liked or at least respected by his peers. Even Jason Whitlock trashed him. And they appeared together regularly on the Sports Reporters before ESPN fired Whitlock back in 2006.

Definitely an entertaining diversion.

[1] Couldn't agree more.

I've never really liked Albom, so it's nice to see I am in good company.

Lupica and Albom - Napoleon Complex.

just to show I'm not totally hard hearted. If anyone comes across Little Mitchell's long out of print book about the Fab Five I do very highly recommend it.

I grew up in Detroit and I can remember when Mitch Albom was a marvelous effing sportswriter. He was one of the best. Now, even I can't stand the guy. But there was a time when he was very very good.

Ablom is noxious.

But this is even worse: "This may be inside baseball. None of you may care. Tough. As I said from the start, this is my blog. You don't like what's in it? Start your own blog." (Charles P. Pierce)

I hate "tough guy" poseurs.

Just read the articles. Albom also sounds like a first-rate jerk.

Pierce isn't a poseur, but even if he were, that seems like a perfectly reasonable stance for a blogger to take.
