Love Me Tender

I still believe that Lance Berkman will have some big hits, and maybe even a home run, for the Yanks before the season is over. Yesterday, he failed in a big spot, but I like his candor after the game. According to Chad Jennings:

“I can always tip my hat to the pitcher if he makes a good pitch,” Lance Berkman said. “But that was a terrible pitch. That ball was hanging right in the middle of the plate. There’s no reason not to hit that ball hard, and I just didn’t do it.”

Give him credit for owning up to his failure; in fact, he was the only one left in the clubhouse when the press came in and he took it all.

Like the real Elvis, he's near the finish line and has to adjust his game accordingly. Hopefully he can do that before the playoffs begin.

Berkman is a standup guy, but in this case, it should be pointed out that he has been so bad against lefties, simply throwing the ball down the middle might be the approach pitchers are taking to get him out.

Love that photo. Looks like Berkman's batting stance from the left side.
