"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

Always Be Closing

So while I celebrated Passover with my family in a cramped Upper West Side apartment–loud, sweaty, funny–the Knicks were busy breaking their fans’ hearts with a 87-85 loss to the Celtics and the Yanks were engaged in a rainy affair with the Rangers at the Stadium. C.C. didn’t have his best outing but the Yanks kept him in the game. I got home in time to see him walk off the mound with a one-run lead in the seventh and settled down in time to see Joba cough it up.

But the Yanks went ahead in the bottom of the eighth when Eric “Caesar Salad” Chavez ripped an RBI single up the middle off Arthur “Fonzarelli” Rhodes–hey the game was on ESPN, excuse me if the spirit of Chris Berman has taken over, maybe I’m just jacked up on rugelach.

Mariano pitched the ninth and here is how that went.

Final Score: Yanks 6, Rangers 5.

In the spirit of the holiday, Eric "Man-o-mani-" Chavez, what a hit!

Love the title, Alex. Perfect. And also one of my favorite speeches in a movie ever. No coffee for Arthur Rhodes tonight.

The Mariano pics are fantastic!

The Knicks..it clearly must be evident to everyone by now that D'antoni is not a very good coach. No way they should have lost that game.

Always nice to open up a "phenom". As J Lamotta would say "he ain't pretty no more".
Team showing resilience, liking it. So, the "non-moves" are doing ok so far.
Love that Carsten Charles has an off night, pen blows it and we still win. #gritty

Wherefore is this closer different from all other closers?

It was actually snowing at the game last night, but any evening that ends with Mariano is a good one.

I love the pictures too.

[8] It's snowing here in Toledo even as I type.

Ha, I was at the game, and I wouldn't say it was "rainy", I mean it briefly rained twice for a total of maybe 15 minutes. I certainly wouldn't say it was snowing (???) - maybe it depended on one's seat location, hahaha.

Anyway I would definitely say I could not get onto the internet with my phone for the entire night or else I would've checked it. It was an entertaining game, and though I wanted to see A Rod, Chavez certainly filled in nicely.

It was exciting to see the Mariano of course.

It was a wintery mix... mostly rain, but yes, flakes were sticking to my coat and cap.
