"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

Why on this Night?

Do we eat horseradish, sing songs and root for the home team? Cause my fam rolls a day early, that’s why.

Word to the Exodus and let’s go Yank-ees!

Mazel tov Alex, and everyone else who'll be celebrating.

2 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 17, 2011 7:47 pm

I haven't seen any news on ARod other then he's sittingf tonight. Anybody?

3 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2011 7:51 pm

[2] From LoHud:

Brian Heyman here at Yankee Stadium for this series finale against the Rangers. As you could see in the previous post, Alex Rodriguez is not in the lineup. The oblique/lower back problem that forced him out of Saturday’s game is still not right. Girardi talked to him and A-Rod said he was sore.

Those guys do a bang up job over there.

And I'm glad that Alex isn't trying to hide his injury and thus give the team a bunch of crappy ABs.

4 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:03 pm

Let's Go Yan-kees! Let's Go Knicks!

5 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:09 pm

Sore? What does that mean? Is there an underlying cause?
I wouldn't be surprised if ARod ends up out Tues and Wed, since Thurday is Off.

6 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:09 pm

Sunuva...
The Knicks.
The freaking Knicks.

Boys, don't do this to me if you're just going to collapse in the fourth quarter. Seriously, I'd rather you just sucked.

I'm getting drawn in. I might not watch the Yanks at all!

7 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:11 pm

Okay, okay, I'll watch the baseball.

8 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:13 pm

[6] I just can't get interested in the Association. I try once in a while, but even during the playoffs it just doesn't hold my attention. And regular season? Forget about it.

9 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:14 pm

Oy. I shoulda watched the half time show.

10 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:14 pm

Yikes, that throw was awful.

11 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:15 pm

Playing balls out there Robbie.

12 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:15 pm

[8] Oh, well, hm. I am mainly a basketball fan. Except that the Knicks have sucked for so long that I had to break it off with the NBA.

13 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:17 pm

I hate Adrian Beltre.

14 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:17 pm

No es bueno, CC.

FUCK.

15 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:17 pm

Crap on a cracker.

16 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:20 pm

That could have gone better

17 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:22 pm

[16] Yeah, that was not the best way to make Martin's throwing error irrelevant.

18 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:22 pm

Who are the announcers? I don't recognize them. (That's a good thing.)

19 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:22 pm

Irresistable force vs immovable object.

who will win?

20 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:23 pm

Better swing, not better result.

21 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:23 pm

No grounder!

22 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:23 pm

Irresistible force, FTW!!!

23 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:24 pm

[18] Are you watching on ESPN? One is Bobby Valentine, no?

24 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:24 pm

[18] Orel Hershheiser (sp?) Bobby Valentine (who I hate) don't know the third guy.

25 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:25 pm

Goddamn Beltre!
There was a big to do at Fenway last night where a ball landed on shoebox sized spot between the Pesky Pole and the yellow paint on the wall. Some Jay lost out on a homer to that pinball machine of a park.

26 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:26 pm

Yes, ESPN. Thanks.

27 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:27 pm

[25] The Jays are off to a good start with their roll-over-against-the-Sox-torment-the-Yankees gambit.

28 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:38 pm

ROBBIE THE RIPPER!!!!!

29 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:38 pm

Fucking Nasty!

30 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:38 pm

that was fucking gorgeous.

dontchya know, robbie cano!!!

31 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:40 pm

Dan Schulman is the main announcer at espn...

32 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:41 pm

Dan Schulman, thanks man! He beats the living crap out of his predecessor, despite this inane commentary about the percentage of runs scored on homers.

33 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:41 pm

And gut Pesach to you.

34 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:42 pm

[32] yeah man. he's good.

robbie's got a great big smile. like my boy, boBBy.

35 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:43 pm

You know what I really want to see? The Yankees getting popped up by a reliever all night

36 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:43 pm

I've switched channels. Sadly I am listening to Tommy Heinsohn call the basketball game. He's excruciating. And a homer of the very worst kind, disgusting.

37 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:44 pm

[34] right back atchya!

my family will be doing seder both night in queens; i, of course, will be eating chumitz the entire time here in atlanta! : )

38 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:44 pm

[35] you're in luck!

39 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:45 pm

beast of borbon.

40 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:47 pm

Hm.

41 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:47 pm

Hellz yeah.
Rob is the man tonight.

42 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:47 pm

nicely turned!

43 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:48 pm

Oh, and Chavez, of course, nice leather.

Ah, apparently I am fucking posting fucking comments too fucking quickly. I will add this nice punctuation to slow myself down.

44 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:48 pm

[39] Bourbon? Well, if you insist. . .

45 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:53 pm

Sigh. I thought this was going to happen, but I thought it was going to happen later. The Celtics are taking over.
Oh well.

46 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:54 pm

yeah, that human trafficking thing is really disturbing and fucked up.

47 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:56 pm

[44] i was making a funny. Julio Borbon led off the inning w/ a single. hence, my comment - which i thought was clever, but got lost in translation!

48 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 8:57 pm

This is going to be a maddening game.

49 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:01 pm

jesus. that sucks.

50 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:02 pm

I always imagined that Bobby V would be a great announcer..that was an incorrect assumption.

51 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:03 pm

I really don't like Michael Young.

52 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:03 pm

[50] i'm with ya on that.

terrible throw by gritner...

53 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:04 pm

Bollocks!

54 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:05 pm

Holy crap. Fire and brimstone!

55 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:07 pm

I wouldn't mind a long rain delay at this point

56 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:07 pm

another nice dp.

57 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:09 pm

Knicks back to looking not terrible.

58 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:10 pm

The Celtics fans are chanting "New York su-ucks!"

59 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:14 pm

[58] i played the big Allman Brothers festival in Florida this weekend. i saw a girl in a shit sox t-shirt, a patriots banner at a camp site and celtics jersey. all 3 pissed me off. didn't see any yankees gear, or any other sports stuff. fuck boston.

i did get to meet Robert Plant though, which was kinda cool...

60 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:14 pm

I hate this game.

61 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:15 pm

[59] Whoa, unexpected ending to that story!

62 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:20 pm

Oh, this is gonna be a long night

63 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:21 pm

Damn. The Knicks are still on top. Five minutes to go.

64 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:21 pm

[61] expect the unexpected!

there are other cool things i could add to that story, but now's not the place or time. i'll have links here to my website soon enough...

that was a really ugly play.

alright, i'm leaving. gonna go pick up some thai noodles for din-din. check in with you guys later.

c'mon CC - get outta this with another DP!!!

65 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:22 pm

i wonder if the Rangers will have Matzoh for Kinsler...

66 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:22 pm

[64] Dude, I can't concentrate. The Knicks.

67 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:23 pm

[59] Very cool.

68 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:24 pm

Its hard for me to decide whether I want a team from Boston or the Knicks to lose

69 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:29 pm

Yay Chavez!

70 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:29 pm

Bang!
Douglas for 3!
Knicks by a trey with 37.8 seconds!

71 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:30 pm

Helluva catch.

72 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:31 pm

Billups is hurt, dang.

73 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:32 pm

Alley-oop to Garnett, wow.
Knicks with a singleton lead and the ball, 37.3 seconds.

74 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:32 pm

That's better

75 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:32 pm

Yup, Cashman done good with the Martin signing.

76 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:33 pm

I don't think it will last, but Martin has been (obviously) a great signing so far.

77 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:34 pm

Holy crap, Brett Gardner swung the bat! TWICE.

78 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:34 pm

Carmelo gives up the ball with an O-foul. I can't stand this.
Celtics with the ball, Knicks no time outs. 21 seconds, here goes...

79 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:35 pm

Russel has MUSCLE! Tad late, I know, but I just checked in.

80 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:36 pm

Celts call their last TO.

Doc Rivers is such a chess master.

81 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:38 pm

[50] What's wrong with Bobby? I think he's great. Insightful, interesting. What's the beef?

82 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:38 pm

Ugh

83 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:38 pm

Betre needs his bell rung.

84 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:39 pm

Ray Allen drains a three.
Carmelo tries to answer back, misses. Ball game.

It was inevitable, seems like.

85 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:40 pm

[81] He's unbelievably smarmy. He bitched for a good five minutes last week because the umpire enforced a rule that Bobby himself admitted was legitimate.

86 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:43 pm

[85] OK. I agree he is smarmy.

87 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:44 pm

[81] And Shut the FUCK up about "blue-collar baseball payers"!! These guys are all multi-millionaires and Micheal Young is a whiny bitch who tried to force a trade, how is he "all about the team"??!

Boat, I actually like Bobby V as a manager and "personality" but doing color-work is a different skill..not for everyone.

88 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:45 pm

[87] I know, Michael Young, blue collar. Snake oil.

89 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:48 pm

...

How?

90 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:48 pm

Bullshit!

91 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:48 pm

this game is pretty sucky.

but we'll win. then it'll be all kindsa awesome!

92 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:48 pm

Ah. Swim move.

93 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:49 pm

[87] I don't get the impression that Young is a "whiny bitch." He's like the Rangers' Jeter and he's been asked to change positions 3-4 times already.

94 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:49 pm

And the Baseball Gods agree. Next play is an out.

95 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:50 pm

the espn radio team of jon sciambi & chris singleton is really very very good.

i'm still shocked that chris is not ken's son. no relation, in fact...

96 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:50 pm

Didn't he tag him in the face? Shitty camera angle.

97 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:52 pm

[95] Really? I'm shocked, too. Chris does look like Ken somewhat....imagination at work?

98 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:53 pm

[93] Maybe harsh, but certain players can be selfish and get a free ride. It's annoying.
Boat, am off to hand in my PR application now..wish me luck!!

99 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:54 pm

holy fuck, he *crushed* that!!!

i love curtis!!!

[102] Now THAT makes the noodles taste good, huh?

104 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:56 pm

Love Curtis in Pinstripes!

105 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:56 pm

The Yankees appear to have found a way to overcome the rally-killing tendency of HRs: simply hit lots of HRs.

106 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:57 pm

[98] PR?

107 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:57 pm

good luck Jazz Tokyo!!! : )

108 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 9:58 pm

PR=Permanent Residency, I'm guessing.

109 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:00 pm

So, is it going to be JoSoMo?

110 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:00 pm

[103] aw yeah! and this noodle meal is already incredibly delectable.

111 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:02 pm

The Yankees have a lot of fat pitchers all of a sudden, don't they?

112 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:04 pm

[109] No. Still CC.

113 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:05 pm

The HRs are really bitchin, but we have FIIVE starters batting under .250, and 3 straters with under a .650 OPS. That can't last, can it?

114 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:05 pm

[108] Hel-LO! I should know that. Just got mine in 2009.

Good luck Jazz. Basically, if you have all the docs, it just takes time.

115 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:06 pm

sweet strike cc.

here's joba...

116 Chyll Will   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:06 pm

So are we doing okay or what??

117 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:07 pm

[111] The mound is experiencing some extra pressure this year.

118 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:07 pm

[116] Now, yes.
Dingers galore.

119 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:09 pm

Joba, not fat, in Nebraska.

I want permanent residency in New Zealand, but they won't have me.

120 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:09 pm

Asshole.

121 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:09 pm

Oh boy.

122 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:09 pm

Ugh.

123 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:11 pm

Is confidence in our bullpen down?

124 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:11 pm

[113] No, it can't last, but I have a feeling the alternative will be delicious.

125 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:11 pm

[120] ?

126 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:11 pm

YEAH! that was super close.

127 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:12 pm

I'm not sure about that.

128 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:12 pm

Hey, Russell Martin. I didn't know he could do that.

129 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:12 pm

Looked safe from naked eye.

130 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:12 pm

Oooooh.
He was safe, yep.

131 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:12 pm

I think he may have been out now

132 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:13 pm

Maybe not.
But I think safe by a hair.

133 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:13 pm

Yes, Orel has it exactly right. He's just smarter.

134 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:14 pm

[125] It's my poor reaction to a a lead off walk from Joba. : )

135 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:14 pm

Oh fuck.

136 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:15 pm

I *really* don't like Michael Young.

137 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:15 pm

fuck you, michael young.

oh yeah, and fuck you too, joba. i can't frickin' stand leadoff walks from the bullpen. (i know, i know - there was already 1 out...but it was his first batter.)

138 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:15 pm

That's what you get Joba. #@$@#$@$@$@

139 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:15 pm

[134] Seems like the right reaction now.

140 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:15 pm

This can't end well.

141 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:16 pm

Joba came in and I looked at his stats, and they looked pretty good. And yet somehow it doesn't seem to add up.

142 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:16 pm

Joba is trying to vulture a W.

143 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:16 pm

[134] i thought it was quite an appropriate reaction to the leadoff walk. shall i say it was "just fair"?! ; )

144 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:16 pm

[140] Actually, I like our chances here.

145 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:16 pm

Joba threw a fastball to first

146 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:17 pm

Our Win Expectancy is 60%.
Let's get a couple of base runners and boost that sucker.

147 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:17 pm

[145] At least it was a strike.

148 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:17 pm

there have been 4 homers in this game. and for all four players, it's their 4th homerun of the season.

kinda cool.

149 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:18 pm

[145] Better that than the crazy rainbow that so many pitchers throw to first, half of which end up down the RF line!

150 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:20 pm

I really wanted Joba to be da tits, but I think he's just an average RP.

151 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:20 pm

[148] Not as crazy as the 1-6 hitters all hitting into double plays the other night. That's just ridiculous. This game's in the bag.

152 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:20 pm

A little Arthur Rhodes magic?

153 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:21 pm

Poor CC, he eats innings (and other things), but no decisions. He is the next to potentially get to 300 wins, but he should be 4 closer to it.

And, the big 25 lbs. he lost when he checked in at Tampa seem to have returned.

He obviously thrives on the bulk.

154 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:21 pm

Rain looks ugly.

155 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:23 pm

I admit that I am pulling for Nolan Ryan and Co in the quest to get more innings out of their starters, and by and large it has been working thus far this season. But if that is the case, why do the Rangers still carry seven reliers? And especially early in the season, when there are so many off days?

156 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:23 pm

"He has heard the loud crack tonight."

Yes, yes he has. The loud crack, he has heard.

157 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:23 pm

Who is the guy with the manicured eyebrows on the screen behind homeplate?

158 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:23 pm

[155] And they have only three outfielders.

159 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:24 pm

PR for Jorge with one out? I say yes.

160 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:24 pm

Pinch Runner, Joe??

161 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:25 pm

[159] Permanent Residency??? I'm pretty sure he's a citizen.

162 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:26 pm

OK, definitely a PR with Po on second.

163 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:26 pm

I guess losing your 3rd string catcher is enough to keep your quicker runners on the bench.

164 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:26 pm

Wow. Posada made it to second.

165 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:27 pm

Oh, and did I mention that the Martin signing has been pretty awesome so far?

166 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:27 pm

For a long time, Arthur Rhodes facing the Yankees meant one thing.

167 rbj   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:27 pm

Arthur Rhodes? I'm drooling!

168 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:28 pm

Fresh meat coming in.

169 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:28 pm

[163] Really, I'd much rather keep Posada in than send in a pinch stand there.

170 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:28 pm

There [146]. Though I actually meant the first two batters. But this did boost the Win Expectancy to 66.4%.

171 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:29 pm

[169] The point is to score on a single, though.
If A-Rod can fill in for Jorgie, then I'm for the PR. If not, then hmm. Andruw?

172 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:29 pm

[169] Except a pinch stand there has about a 1000% better chance to score from 2B on a single, and maybe also a double.

173 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:30 pm

[171] Andruw PH for Gardner. Whose left on the bench, assuming A-Rod is definitely out?

174 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:30 pm

Oh, there's Andruw. Reasonable choice.
So, nobody really to take over as the DH. Hm, close call, I dunno if I would PR.

175 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:31 pm

Oi!

176 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:31 pm

The Yanks can't lose Posada's bat if needed in the 9th.

177 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:31 pm

Well, that was anti-climatic, Andruw. Come on, Jeter!

178 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:31 pm

Ugh. Andruw almost tagged it.

179 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:32 pm

Jeter is the only Yankee ever not to hit Rhodes

180 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:33 pm

[176] Yeah, maybe. There is a decent chance he'd come up in the ninth. I still might have gone for the gusto this inning.

Of course, I'd also not carry 12 or 13 pitchers so that I could have another bat and/or PR available on the bench. Call me crazy.

181 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:33 pm

Leaving Posada in was better, in retrospect.

182 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:34 pm

The Captain really hit the shit out of that one. : (

183 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:34 pm

Jeter H. Christ!

184 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:35 pm

A Jeter grounder to short, how novel.

I love him, but I just don't have any confidence left. At least we found the fungo coach when he does retire.

185 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:36 pm

[181] Although, had they PR for Posada when he was on 1B, Nuñez (?) might have made 3B on the MArtin single and then scored on the Jones FO. Assuming the predetermined outcome, of course. ; )

186 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:36 pm

[185] Hm, possible.

187 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:38 pm

I'll be. Andrus was indeed out.

188 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:39 pm

That out got us 15% of Win Expectancy.

189 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:39 pm

[185] I'm not sure he would have gone to third from a stand still on a single to left.

190 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:40 pm

[189] You may be right.

[188] Uh-oh...how much did that single cost, WE% speaking?

191 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:41 pm

Yeah, I think I screwed that up.
Well, anyway, just get the out and let's get to work.

192 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:42 pm

[190] Not sure, because I think I overestimated it. I don't feel like working it out now. 15% is too much, though.

Anyway, it's 62% now.

193 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:43 pm

[180] Returning to my favorite whipping boy/dead horse: knowing that A-rod is day-to-day but really out until Toronto series at least, why not send down/cut someone useless like Ayala/Noesi and call up an extra position player/hitter for a few days?

194 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:44 pm

[192] Lies, damn lies, statistics and RIYank.

195 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:45 pm

What has the world come to when the Yankees cant hit Arthur Rhodes?

196 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:46 pm

I was hoping Granderson was going to walk there.

197 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:46 pm

[192] i recently listened to Tom Lehrer's "New Math"...

right bobby v - it's not really a tie game. whatevs...

198 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:48 pm

[197] Great song.

There's the walk. Here we go, boys.

199 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:48 pm

Knock a wall down, Robbie!

200 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:49 pm

Bobby realized the pitcher wasn't white.

dammit. close-ish...

202 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:50 pm

Oh, man. Whacked it.

203 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:51 pm

True, in Fenway that was an RBI double.

204 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:52 pm

Ah, the glory of the No-Doubles defense!

205 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:53 pm

I have a hard time with the announcers speaking in awed tones about how deep Yankee Stadium is to LF. Death Valley has been long gone, since another stadium and over 20 years. The preset iteration is basically a neutral, nearly symmetrical ballpark.

206 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:54 pm

Become a Yankee, Chavez. Become a Yankee. Ha.!

207 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:56 pm

Damn Fucking Straight!

208 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:56 pm

ERIC THE GREAT!!!

209 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:56 pm

Hey, he's a Yankee! [206] Nice job, Just Fair.

210 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:56 pm

[206] From your keyboard to Chavez' bat...

211 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:56 pm

God bless Arthur Rhodes

212 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:56 pm

Chivas for Chavez!

213 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:56 pm

YES! On the Rhodes again!

214 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:57 pm

[212] From your keyboard to John Sterling's lips.

Ew. Ugly image. Sorry.

215 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:57 pm

did Bobby V just call Mark: "Teck-Chair-A"?

216 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:57 pm

Now, as much as I defend Jeter in these parts, I do think that the team should consider using a defensive replacement at SS in games like this.

217 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:57 pm

See...we needed Posada's bat in the 8th to scare a walk to get to Russell.

218 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:57 pm

an RI special to Jorge!

219 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:58 pm

Valentine is kind of growing on me.

220 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:58 pm

Oh, hey. See, Jorgie batting here causes them to issue the IBB, and then a new pitcher with the sacks juiced is a recipe for insurance runs.

221 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:58 pm

[217] [218] Precisely!

222 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:58 pm

[217] Yes. Joe Girardi is the true chess master, and we are ALL mere pawns in his larger game.

223 Boatzilla   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:59 pm

Huh? With Hamilton in center Tex is held up at 3rd? I don't think so, Bobby.

224 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:59 pm

[215] I heard Tex-Chair-A. In any case, at least it's not either of the two buffoons who used to be on Sunday.

225 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 10:59 pm

I wonder who's calling the tactics for the Rangers now. I mean, very likely Washington would have done the same. Just wondering. I hate that move, as thelarmis knows. (That is, I love it from our point of view.)

226 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:00 pm

[214] I would never say that...it's corny enough in print.

227 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:00 pm

Mariano's even classy when he spits. ; )

228 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:00 pm

[224] I know. I've thought that at least once per inning. Nor those two Fox morons.

229 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:00 pm

Strop it on!

230 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:02 pm

Perfect. This is exactly the problem with walking Posada, exactly.

3-1, let's go Muscle!

231 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:02 pm

Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

232 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:02 pm

That was not a swing...

233 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:03 pm

Damn.
If only Russell could have held up on that 3-1! Crap.

Well, it's Mo. It's Mo.

234 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:03 pm

I'm closing up the laptop for this inning. I have a nice bottle of Prosecco open. Back to youse guys shortly.

235 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:04 pm

bollocks.

bullshit blue. i wish they showed that again; it didn't appear as if he went...

[224] you're most likely correct. my hearing is really very ungood. i was supposed to go back to my audiologist 2 months ago, but haven't set up the appointment. kinda scared to go, i guess. sometime this summer, i'll go for another audiogram...

236 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:06 pm

Time has not been kind to KC

237 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:07 pm

It is so much better with this ESPN crew...but I do miss John Miller saying "The Great Mariano Rivera" in his tenor voice.

238 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:08 pm

[237] Miller has such a perfect radio/announcer voice, and he didn't used to be such a jackass. Obviously sharing the booth for two decades with Joe Morgan took its toll.

239 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:09 pm

Have Tom Arnold and Bobby Valentine ever been seen together? They both suck.

240 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:10 pm

[216] When you say 'games like this', you ean.... 9 inning games?

241 monkeypants   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:11 pm

[240] Close games with little chance that Jeter will bat again.

242 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:12 pm

Thanks be to Mo.

The Kinsler K was freaking beautiful.

243 Just Fair   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:12 pm

That'll do.
All Rise.

244 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:12 pm

Not sure again, but I think this ump gets the benefit of the doubt

245 Mattpat11   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:13 pm

He was out.

246 thelarmis   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:13 pm

what an absolute privilege it is to watch Mr. Mo work!

247 RIYank   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:13 pm

Ladies and gentlemen, Mariano Rivera.

248 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:16 pm

Nice win, Chavez feels the love, and Mariano's stature as a top 5 all time Yankee great is further burnished.

249 Chyll Will   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:23 pm

Not bad.

250 OldYanksFan   ~  Apr 17, 2011 11:25 pm

Gotta call this one a great Win. Down early to the hottest team in the AL, ARod out of the lineup, behind most of the game. A very good Win indeed.

P.S. Even Monkeypants thinks it's time to boot Jeter.

251 monkeypants   ~  Apr 18, 2011 12:04 am

[250] Yeah, I pretty much didn't say that.

252 Bellota   ~  Apr 18, 2011 9:12 am

I'd like to have John Miller announcing (instead of the factoid robot Schulman) with color by Orel and Bobby Valentine.
