Happy birthday, Donnie!

I hope you're enjoying your quiet retirement in Evansville. Because of course, Mattingly has never worn any uniform other than the Yankees.

[1] yeah, just the other day, i was wondering why he's not wearing #23. braves have been playing the dodgers out west, so i've had the chance to see a few innings, here and there. i think donnie might be wearing torre's 6, can't remember. actually, it might be #8, which is all kindsa weird. i think casey blake has #23 and certainly should've given it up, even if mattingly didn't ask for it.

i can't remember the pitcher - brad penny, maybe - but wouldn't give Maddox his 31 when he joined the team. huh...

[0] that's a cool card! i guess i stopped collecting by 1989, 'coz i don't recognize the design at all. hmmm. i recently picked up a random pack of 1989 Fleer - at an old record store, of all places - and amazingly got a Mattingly card in there! but this one is cooler...

got an awesome Munson card in the new 2011 Topps! : )

[23] Maybe Donnie didn't want to totally lose his connections with the Yanks and his fans by carrying 23 over with him. It would be cool if he was wearing Torre's 6; at least we know what's up with that.

Did I subtly reference Donnie there? Happy Boithday, Hitman!

Not to be nit picky, but that's not a Topps "Heritage" card....I think it might be a Topps "Big" or something like that though.
