Looks like a line drive in the box score. 50.

2 rbj   ~  May 2, 2011 7:12 pm

Legs looked slow there.

3 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 7:22 pm

[3] In the box score it looked like a CS, though.

4 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 2, 2011 7:23 pm

I'm shocked Jorgie did that!
Wow!

Way to go, Jorgie!

5 randym77   ~  May 2, 2011 7:23 pm

Nice, Jorgie.

6 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 7:24 pm

I hope Jorgie has recovered from suckitis. Maybe!

7 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 7:24 pm

He's not dead yet!!!

8 Just Fair   ~  May 2, 2011 7:24 pm

Yes! Coming up empty in this inning would have been anti-good.

9 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 7:25 pm

Did everyone see that Hideki got a walk-off tater?

10 rbj   ~  May 2, 2011 7:27 pm

[9] Yup. Good for him.

11 Just Fair   ~  May 2, 2011 7:29 pm

Good morning. Good afternoon. Good night.

12 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 2, 2011 7:30 pm

[9] Aww, yaaay!!

13 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 7:32 pm

Where is Michael Kay, by the way?

14 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 2, 2011 7:33 pm

Bad play, Nunez.

15 Just Fair   ~  May 2, 2011 7:34 pm

I miss Robbie. : (

16 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 2, 2011 7:35 pm

That sure was pretty hitting.

ESPN Getting in the Act:
Time to move Jeter out of leadoff spot
http://tinyurl.com/5tsnpzq
"This is not an anti-Derek Jeter post, although I'm sure many Yankees fans will take it that way."

18 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 7:41 pm

Look at Brett.

19 rbj   ~  May 2, 2011 7:41 pm

I'll take the out for the run.

20 OldYanksFan   ~  May 2, 2011 7:42 pm

In 1.1 games, Nunez has hit more hot shots then Jeter has all season.
Just the facts, Mam.

21 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 7:42 pm

Jesus, that was so stupid.
Oh well, credit for crushing that pitch anyway.

22 randym77   ~  May 2, 2011 7:43 pm

Yeah, I think we could have had the run without the out.

Oh, well.

23 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 7:44 pm

[19] He would have been at second base with nobody out!
I mean, Brett, okay, he gets special dispensation on the base paths. But you wouldn't rather have runners on second and third with nobody out than bases empty with one out?

24 rbj   ~  May 2, 2011 7:45 pm

Another hit for Jeter!

25 OldYanksFan   ~  May 2, 2011 7:45 pm

Wow!

26 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 7:45 pm

*So* stupid?

He thought the throw was going through to the plate, he's a fast runner.

A little stupid, maybe, but not much more than that.

Wow, all the corpses are zombiriffic tonite!

27 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 7:46 pm

[20] Derek asked me to tell you... well, it's kind of visual.

28 rbj   ~  May 2, 2011 7:47 pm

[23] I'll take the sure run. I've seen second & third with no outs and come up empty. I mean, I'd rather have the run in and a guy on second with no outs, but not going to be upset with what happened. Especially against a scuffling team.

29 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 7:48 pm

[26] The throw did go to the plate -- cut off just in front of the plate, anyway.

I know a lot of people like aggressive base-running, but it just seems like so often you blow a run and a rally. (Jeter CS in the first, same thing -- that could have been a big inning.)

30 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 7:51 pm

[28] Sometimes comes up empty, of course. Losing the opportunity for the big inning really irks me, though. (Run expectancy for second and third with nobody out is almost exactly two runs; with a run in and one out bases empty, it's about 1.3.)

31 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 7:52 pm

[29] Uh, that's not the same thing.

If the ball goes to the catcher, he's safe at 3rd.

32 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 7:53 pm

[31] Fair enough. Esp. if the catcher tries to make a tag.

Mean while, the fat kid is still good.

33 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 7:54 pm

[30] And with 1 in, runner on 3rd and none out?

In any case, you quarrel would seem to be with Thompson for sending Gardner to begin with, Nunez moving up on the throw as the trailing runner is the right move ...

34 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 7:54 pm

The Detroit announcers are marveling at him. (And now pointing out that although "a lotta people thought Brian Cashman has a bad off-season," Chavez, Colon, Garcia, Martin looks like a pretty good catch about now.)

35 randym77   ~  May 2, 2011 7:54 pm

Jeez. Deep in death valley.

36 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 7:54 pm

[32] Quiet, you!

=)

37 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 7:55 pm

[33] 2 1/2, about.

38 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 7:56 pm

[36] I know, damn. But there he is again, smoke.

39 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 7:59 pm

That curve really is nasty.

40 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 2, 2011 8:05 pm

Why in the fuck are they asking Derek Jeter about OBL?

41 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 8:07 pm

[40] Same reason folks want to know Obama's brackets for March Madness.

42 rbj   ~  May 2, 2011 8:08 pm

Wow, and we're complaining about Jeter?

43 Just Fair   ~  May 2, 2011 8:08 pm

[41] It's less controversial than his OBP.

44 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 8:09 pm

Gah, good throw, just not in time.

45 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 8:09 pm

Figures.
Seriously, they should walk him every PA. Like that dude said.

46 randym77   ~  May 2, 2011 8:13 pm

[43] LOL.

Man, I feel old. Has it really been ten years? And Jeter's been playing that long?

47 Just Fair   ~  May 2, 2011 8:15 pm

Good news on Phl. Now what??

48 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 2, 2011 8:15 pm

[47] My typing sucks. Oi! Get well soon, Phil. I see lots of long toss in your future. Or something.

50 Boatzilla   ~  May 2, 2011 8:17 pm

What's going on? I just tuned in and Jeets has 2 hits, Posada has a double. Osama is dead. Should I buy a lottery ticket?

51 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 8:19 pm

NO PLAYS PLEASE.

52 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 8:21 pm

60 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 8:25 pm

61 rbj   ~  May 2, 2011 8:26 pm

62 Just Fair   ~  May 2, 2011 8:26 pm

FUCK!

63 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 8:27 pm

Wow. I thought he had NO chance when that ball 1st hit him.

Bah.

Bad luck for Curtis.

64 Boatzilla   ~  May 2, 2011 8:27 pm

Well that stunk on ice.

65 randym77   ~  May 2, 2011 8:28 pm

I guess Gardy needs to steal home next time.

66 rbj   ~  May 2, 2011 8:33 pm

And last game thread with this version of the Banter. Sort of like the old/new Yankee Stadium.

67 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 8:34 pm

[66] Shouldn't we sing, or something?

68 randym77   ~  May 2, 2011 8:37 pm

[66] What? What are we switching to?

69 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 8:38 pm

Thought Alex hit that one a bit harder than that.

70 OldYanksFan   ~  May 2, 2011 8:40 pm

Verlander just threw pitch #103.

71 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 8:40 pm
72 rbj   ~  May 2, 2011 8:43 pm

[67] You can sing. I can't. I mean, I've had good friends threaten me with bodily harm for singing. I have no voice.

But I will join in a toast.

The movement on Colon's pitches is remarkable.

75 randym77   ~  May 2, 2011 8:47 pm

[71] Thanks.

It says the comment section will be the same, but more like it used to be.

I really miss the old Baseball Toaster style comments. Where square brackets would make a clickable link to the comment you were replying to.

76 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 2, 2011 8:51 pm

[75] Yep, that was great.
Well done Bartolo!!

I hope there is some serious flash Score Truck graphics on the new site.

77 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 8:51 pm

[73] Not kumbaya? [72] If thelarmis shows up he can lay down some rhythm, then we'll be fine. I sing loud.

86 thelarmis   ~  May 2, 2011 8:59 pm

they should let gritner and jorgie switch places...

89 Just Fair   ~  May 2, 2011 9:02 pm

Uh, what are you looking for? Bollocks!

90 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 9:02 pm

If I'm a Tiger's fan, I'm wondering why in the Hell Verlander is throwing 120+ pitches in a near meaningless game in freakin' May.

91 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 9:02 pm

[88] At 100 mph.

92 Boatzilla   ~  May 2, 2011 9:02 pm

[87] Can't they use a "ghost runner" for Jorge?

93 OldYanksFan   ~  May 2, 2011 9:04 pm

96 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 9:05 pm

Wow. Overpowered.

97 Boatzilla   ~  May 2, 2011 9:05 pm

That was out of the strike zone, correct?

98 OldYanksFan   ~  May 2, 2011 9:06 pm

Gritner's OPS now up to a quasi aceptable .733.
Jeter's at ,588.

99 OldYanksFan   ~  May 2, 2011 9:06 pm

[97] Might have been low.

100 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 9:08 pm

[97] Very close. On Gameday it just scrapes the bottom of the zone.

Well.... Verlander is gone. Can we score on their BP?

102 Boatzilla   ~  May 2, 2011 9:10 pm

[100] I had the MLB pitch FX up, but I turned it when they said Swisher was batting during Edwin's at bat.

103 Boatzilla   ~  May 2, 2011 9:11 pm

That should have been "turned it off"

104 thelarmis   ~  May 2, 2011 9:11 pm

[101] oh yeah.

Colon has been a pleasure to watch. How the hell does he make the ball move that much? Awesome!

107 OldYanksFan   ~  May 2, 2011 9:11 pm

Colon at just 82 pitches. Do we see him for the 7th? I hope so.

[106] We are lucky to have him.

111 OldYanksFan   ~  May 2, 2011 9:13 pm

Pena saw a lot of Bartolo (no pun intended, as there is a lot to see) in the DR. It's no accident that Cashman signed him.

Man.... has ARod looked shitty this last week, or what?

113 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 2, 2011 9:15 pm

[109] No shame! Verlander is great to watch!
[104] Not sure we want to say "Colon" and "ass" in the same sentence..so many ways to interpret that...

114 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 2, 2011 9:17 pm

My Little Dusty had a 13-pitch AB against Weaver, then singled in two. Sox lead 3-2 against the Scioscias.

[164] Regular or BS2? I may have mentioned they shut our NHK down. Subscribers only now...at least in my neighborhood.

172 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 2, 2011 9:46 pm

[171] Ah right, BS2. But it's still free in my building.

I'm close to jumping in with OYF..Jeter looks done.

173 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 9:48 pm

[167] I recommend drinking heavily.

As a wise man once said:

"Wine is fine, but whiskey's quicker,

Jeter's slide hurts less with liquor ..."

174 Boatzilla   ~  May 2, 2011 9:49 pm

At least our defensive is good this year.

175 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 9:50 pm

To those "wise men" who reportedly asked "what's the point of Brett Gardner?"

That, friends, is a "point" of Brett Gardner ...

176 Boatzilla   ~  May 2, 2011 9:50 pm

Or should I say, "fielding" (Mellish)?

177 thelarmis   ~  May 2, 2011 9:50 pm

[173] that wise man also has the best birthday in the world! (same as a certain drummer at bronx banter...)

speaking of drinking...i barely am these days. have a beer for me, bro!

178 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 9:50 pm

[175] Not plays???

179 Just Fair   ~  May 2, 2011 9:51 pm

Friggin' Cabrera! Bah.

182 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 9:53 pm

[177] Will do buddy!

So, what's the deal, you going on tour?

183 Boatzilla   ~  May 2, 2011 9:54 pm

Joba Rules!

184 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 9:54 pm

Nice.
I'd let Joba start the ninth. Although I guess if we score, put in D-Rob.

185 thelarmis   ~  May 2, 2011 9:57 pm

[182] i don't know. prolly not. but i've got 3 offers and they're all pretty good. a couple that could be real solid work and another that has a lot of big potential. all are solid and at a good level already. it's the risk/reward thing.

there are some really fabulous countries on the tour, but touring ain't easy and i've got a lot of solid work here at home. plus, i'm in the middle of my 2nd solo cd and don't wanna lose steam.

we'll see. i'm still talking to bandleaders about logistics and such...

186 OldYanksFan   ~  May 2, 2011 9:58 pm

[172] Ya mean you haven't been all along?

187 thelarmis   ~  May 2, 2011 10:00 pm

Let the Tigers do all the fucking plays from now on.

Fuck.

204 Raf   ~  May 2, 2011 10:05 pm

Dang... He was trying to avoid contact and overslid the bag.

205 OldYanksFan   ~  May 2, 2011 10:05 pm

The SB attempts have killed us today.

206 Just Fair   ~  May 2, 2011 10:06 pm

Big homer time.

[203] MattPat says Hi.

208 Boatzilla   ~  May 2, 2011 10:06 pm

[204] The problem was he rolled. If he says flat his leg hooks the bag on the way through. I've never seen anyone roll on their back like that.

209 thelarmis   ~  May 2, 2011 10:07 pm

[198] i always enjoyed plays. it was fun playing in the pit orchestra.

don't worry. alex will go boom right now...

210 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 10:07 pm

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

FUCK.

That's 2 pitches Alex was right on.

211 OldYanksFan   ~  May 2, 2011 10:07 pm

ARod is missing everything. What's wrong?

212 Raf   ~  May 2, 2011 10:08 pm

[208] He rolled because he was trying to avoid contact.

[206] yes. i agree.

Mo.

229 Raf   ~  May 2, 2011 10:13 pm

Moar runs pls

230 Boatzilla   ~  May 2, 2011 10:13 pm

That was a great slide.

231 thelarmis   ~  May 2, 2011 10:13 pm

i got a Swisher 2010 Topps card yesterday. good horizontal shot of him diving into 3rd at the Stadium.

232 thelarmis   ~  May 2, 2011 10:13 pm

this will be his 30th pitch. only 1 out...

233 mhoward120   ~  May 2, 2011 10:14 pm

Has anyone ever seen K-Rod and Valverde together? Just wondering whether they were the same lame-ass person

234 thelarmis   ~  May 2, 2011 10:14 pm

that was weak, po.

235 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 10:14 pm

Ugh.

Weak sauce swing.

236 OldYanksFan   ~  May 2, 2011 10:15 pm

Watching Jeter and Posada ABs makes me want to jam hot pokers in my eyes.

237 thelarmis   ~  May 2, 2011 10:16 pm

that is sooo awesome!!!

238 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 10:16 pm

[236] They're both 2 for 5.

239 mhoward120   ~  May 2, 2011 10:16 pm

K-Rod, Valverde, Diarrhea

240 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 10:16 pm

243 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 10:17 pm

244 OldYanksFan   ~  May 2, 2011 10:17 pm

Mystique and Aura to the rescue.

245 Just Fair   ~  May 2, 2011 10:17 pm

Nice. Let's see your little song and dance now Valverde. Douche.
It's neat watching a Yankee game with several seconds of silence at a time. Lorenz doesn't feel the need to blather on incessantly.

246 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 10:18 pm

[236] Alcohol is good for that, too!

247 OldYanksFan   ~  May 2, 2011 10:18 pm

[238] Yup. And they still suck.

248 Boatzilla   ~  May 2, 2011 10:18 pm

[236] And drink heavily.

249 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 10:19 pm

[245] True (about Lorenz), but it's slightly disconcerting.

250 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 10:19 pm

[247] But watching Posada blast a double makes you want to put hot pokers in your eyes? You have an odd motivational system.

251 Boatzilla   ~  May 2, 2011 10:19 pm

[246] Sorry, digital delay.

252 thelarmis   ~  May 2, 2011 10:21 pm

what a rare and unexpected treat for me to see Mo pitch tonite!

i didn't learn that the game was on espn til late last nite and i was expecting to be teaching, then had plans. everything changed and i'm glad for it. then again, i dvr'ed it, just in case Mo would pitch!

253 thelarmis   ~  May 2, 2011 10:22 pm

alex has a friggin' cannon.

254 mhoward120   ~  May 2, 2011 10:22 pm

So is A-Rod the best shortstop in history, the best third-baseman, or both?

255 rbj   ~  May 2, 2011 10:23 pm

[246] If you say so.

A toast to B 2.0. And another one to the US Seals.

256 Mattpat11   ~  May 2, 2011 10:23 pm

Good win

257 Just Fair   ~  May 2, 2011 10:23 pm

All Rise. What a bizarre game.

258 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 10:23 pm

Praise be to Mo.

259 mhoward120   ~  May 2, 2011 10:23 pm

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

260 rbj   ~  May 2, 2011 10:23 pm

Ah, Mo.

261 OldYanksFan   ~  May 2, 2011 10:24 pm

[250]
Po now at: .150 .244 .400
Jeter now at: .250 .313 .270
You really want to watch that all season?
At what point do you cry Uncle?

262 thelarmis   ~  May 2, 2011 10:24 pm

wow. that was wonderful!

YAY!!!

Yanks win. Mo gets the save.

last day of the Banter is we know it...

263 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 10:24 pm

And that's it.
A fitting goodbye to Banter 2.0!

264 cult of basebaal   ~  May 2, 2011 10:25 pm

[256] Not sure if it was a "good" win, but it was a much better win than a loss!

265 RIYank   ~  May 2, 2011 10:27 pm

[261] I'm just wondering why you said that watching the ABs makes you want to put hot pokers in your eyes, when they both had good nights. It's just a weird thing to say. I mean, unless you enjoy the hot pokers. As in, "Hey, it's so much fun watching Posada hit doubles that I think I'll celebrate by jamming a hot poker in my eye!"

266 thelarmis   ~  May 2, 2011 10:27 pm

[263] actually, it's kinda like Banter 3.0, or at least 2.5. i was reading Alex's Bronx Banter back at allbaseball.com, back in the day...!

267 thelarmis   ~  May 2, 2011 10:28 pm

[265] sounds like the George Carlin skit...

268 Boatzilla   ~  May 2, 2011 10:29 pm

Joba gets the win.

269 Boatzilla   ~  May 2, 2011 10:32 pm

[267] Then he would say something like, "When's the last time you saw a hot poker. Does anyone in the audience have a hot poker....or even a cold poker?"
