wow, cool photo! i don't think i've ever seen it before. he looks a little like Ali there...
i'm with you, Alex - i'm not really interested in the draft, whatsoever. i'm guessing Cliff will prolly write something about who we picked and i'll read that. otherwise, it doesn't really resonate with me...
Well, I'm pretty interested.
I would be more interested if somebody hadn't exchanged our first round pick for a very expensive DL entry. Grrrr. First round plus a compensation round pick. For nothing. Worse than nothing.
Yeah, I know some fans love the draft. It has never been compelling to me though it's a significant part of what goes on for teams. Fortunately for us, there are some bloggers out there that do a great job covering it.
[2] yeah, i remember you asking alex if there'd be coverage here. i'm not pleased about the soriano fallout either, but even if we had those picks, i wouldn't be following it too very closely.
i'll read about our guys after the fact, and glance at tampon's bounty (the quicker picker upper!) and the shit sox' haul...
[3] yeah, i totally understand it, it's just not for me. i'm pretty much all about MLB, and that's really it. i don't have much interest in the minor leagues, WBC, spring training, olympics, draft, etc...
i follow ALL of that, in regards to the Yankees, but more in a glancing fashion. i know all of these things pretty much affect the major league level, but my main concern is what goes on with the parent club.
The MLB draft doesn't interest me all that much. Unlike NBA and NFL, baseball draft picks generally take sooo long to have an impact at the major league level, it's hard to get very excited about any individual draft. Plus, teams like the Yankees fill out their MiL rosters with lots of international FAs, making the draft less important.
I love to follow prospects, but the draft just doesn't do it for me.
I have to confess to being one of the fervent minority who follows the prospects pretty closely. Most break your heart because their stellar lower-level results don't translate into anything that helps at the big-leage level. But I do find it irresistable to track their exploits nevertheless. Admittedly though, the MLB draft is a complete crapshoot. Some choices are obvious first-rounders (Jeter, Joba, Phil Hughes), but it's the later rounds where the Yanks have found some gems: Jorgie (24th round, 1990), Dave Robertson (17th round, 2006), Andy Pettitte (22nd round, 1990).
