I'm disappointed (but not surprised) by Girardi's statement yesterday that Jeter will return to the leadoff spot. Given how hot Gardner is right now, there is no justification for that move. Pure Veteran Worship.

[1] Yeah. But then, the statheads say the order of the lineup makes very little difference. Given that, maybe keeping peace in the clubhouse is not a bad idea.

[2] That's a good point. There is certainly some (largely unquantifiable) value to a happy clubhouse. I just done get why a player like Jeter can't go along with what's best for the team. Gardner has certainly been gracious with Girardi's questionable decision to take his hot bat out of the lineup in favor of Washedup Jones.
