"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

Beat of the Day

Turn the volume up. The song is best played loudly.

Love Delaney & Bonnie, and their "friends" that included Eric Clapton, Leon Russell, Dave Mason, George Harrison, the Allman Brothers, and a raft of some of the best rock session players. Their music was admired by many of rock royalty, but was not a huge commercial success.

That being said, the version of this song by the Carpenters is the one that will forever be remembered. As a teen, I was a rock lover and gave up on top 40 once "Progressive FM" took hold, but was a closet fan of the Carpenters. It's nice to see them getting their due as important members of pop/rock history.

And...if only Mama Cass shared that ham sandwich with Karen Carpenter, they'd both be alive today. (old joke...groan)

1) True, but I prefer this version.

The Luther Vandross version is a killer!
